Powerstroke owners...confused?

One of my new shipmates owns a '00 powerstroke, so I thought I'd talk trucks a little. As soon as I mentioned the Cummins he got a little defensive. OK, I did mention hearing about powerstroke cackle problems.

Anyway, according to his source, a diesel mechanic, the powerstroke has stronger internals and piston cooling nozzles.

I hate explaining things to none technically minded individuals, so I didn't say anything other then I liked the ford lines and "Yeah my Cummins is loud, but I don't hear it at 70 m. p. h. "

I found his defensive attitude amusing.

them new hpcr isbe engines have those... and big ol' conrods... and a better manual 6 speed trans behind it...

If I ain't mistaken, the Cummins 5. 9 has always had cooling nozzles. They were the first to suffer when WIX filters were coming apart back in '89-90 and causing damage.

My interest went limp with the Powerstroke as soon as I learned about their fuel injection system. I wouldn't touch one with a stick. Maybe they're the ones who are just now getting around to using piston cooling nozzles. It's hard to imagine a motor as technologically advanced as the Powerstroke is still using glow plugs and is having as much trouble as it is and has always had.

Yes, the "B" series has always had the piston cooling nozzles that can get clogged up with junk, but the new higher hp ISBe's have the HD J-jet style piston cooling nozzles... . real cool.

Just tell him he may not be lucky enough to have a Cummins, but at least it is a 7. 3 and not a 6. 0.

The 6. 9's and 7. 3's have cooling nozzles.
