When EGT's get too low

times

MY dads 99 powerstroke starts then goes down the road and after its on the road it just dies, you then have to let it sit broke down before it will restart. Ive changed fuel filter, air filter, cam sensor???any :-{} help other than trying to get him to buy a dodge??

If I am not mistaken the power stroke has a sensor to detect fuel in the oil, we had them on wreckers. The injectors are oil activated and will leak around the o-rings and mix fuel into the oil, this causes the engine to shut down. sitting the fuel settles enough to allow it to start until the oil gets hot and then it will shut down again. Just an idea, I am not sure that it has the sensor but you may ask the dealer or on the oil burner's forum to see.

You can test the cam sensor by turning over the motor. If the tach does not move while the engine is turning over the cam sensor is bad. Hope this helps. .

If it blows lost of blue smoke/no power or pickup and then stalls, after a few minutes it starts and runs for a little bit and does it again--- its the CPS,but you said that has already been replaced. How long ago?My company Ford has done it a few times, both times were the CPS so thats my guess.

Have you checked the oil? A guy i work with had the same problem and discovered if the oil is too low it will do just what you have explained  .

when it broke down i towed back to my house and went to parts store and got the sensor they call the cam postion sensor which was located buy the balancer. SO I changed it problem didnt got away, so I put back the old one and then the damn truck an hour later decided to run for about a week and now its doing it again. Bought a code checker and it dont throw any dtcs.

So basically its had the cam postion sensor, fuel filter, air filter changed and ive tried to check with code reader. Oil is at good level, and no its not under waranty its got 104,000miles.
