Hi Guys and Gals,

Knowing what the power of prayer can do, I humbly ask that you send a prayer my wife's way. Yesterday (10/4) she was diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery as soon as we can set it up. Carmen is only 40 years old.

Thank you so much.

Martin

Martin, I will pray for your wife. We serve the God that performs miracles every day. Are they performing a mastectomy? What level (1-4)?

Prayers on the way, Martin. My wife is a cancer survivor (12 years). She was 27 when she had it. It CAN be beat - cancer treatment has come a long way and is even better than when my wife had it. I also believe in the power of a positive outlook. My wife had some of the best doctors anywhere, and she trusted them with confidence that she was going to get better. I think her positive attitude contributed to the success of her treatment.

Family members here had it too, all survived without complications. Keep up her spirits as she will be relying on you too. Prayers on the way.

Martin, prayers are on the way. Tell your wife we are thinking of her.

Check out the Susan G Komen foundation, loads of good info on breast cancer treatments etc. The docs are doing wonderful things for the women (and even men) who suffer from breast cancer. Also lots of good information at the MD Anderson website, Sloan Kettering, and others.

It will be harder on you in some ways Martin, than it will be on your wife. Standing around feeling helpless is absolute agony, so it is great to realize that you CAN help her quite a bit - you can be a shoulder to cry on, a punching bag to rage at, a policeman to make people give her space when she wants to relax, buy her a nice dinner, take her on a trip, handle the hospital paperwork so she doesn't have to fool with it, etc.

Stay tough bud, you and your wife can make it through all this. If there is any info you need or anything we can do don't hesitate to ask

Martin,

I've also sent up a prayer. I have a 41 year-old daughter named Carmen so will have no trouble remembering your Carmen.

My sister had breast cancer in '96, came through with a great attitude and is now cancer free after all these years.

There could be some troublesome days ahead but remember that God loves both of you and He has not forsaken you.

. . . "God has said, 'I will never fail you. I will never forsake you. ' That is why we can say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper, so I will not be afraid. '". . . Hebrews 13:5b, 6, New Living Translation.

I, too, will pray for your wife.

My mother in-law went through that struggle. Tell Carmen to be strong and do her best to visualize The Almighty's healing presence.

:)

Thank You

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

I understood from the doctors that they wanted to do the surgery (mastectomy) first, but they need to do a catscan (today) and a bone scan on Tuesday. Based on those results, they will determine whether chemotherapy will be done first.

Again, thank you very much.

Update

Thank you for your prayers - they are working!

We had good results on the CAT scan and the bone scan. On 10/14 she had the first of eight chemotherapy treatments. She is doing well. After the fourth treatment (once every two weeks), the doctors will determine whether the remaining chemo treatments will be done before or after the surgery.

Thank you so much.
