Update

Well, got back last evening. Condition update, still in a drug induced coma... . till they can fix/repair all her broken bones. Hopefully , it wont be much longer and they can bring her out of it. She had more surgery yesterday t repair/fix a crushed left elbow, right wrist broken and a loose screw/pin in her left leg that was from a previous injury, that had started to come out. So far she has had 5-6 surgeries, about 25-35 hours of surgery ( dont know for sure ) . Will know more in the next few days. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers for her.

It took them almost an hour to cut her out of the car. Even the fireman/rescue didn't think she would make it to the hospital alive. There are still pieces of her car, about 25 feet up in a nearby tree, lodged in the limbs, that was not even involved ( the tree) in the crash.

Have Faith

My wife nearly died of a heart infection that ate up some of the mitral(sp) valve. After 6 months and $18,000 worth of hard core antibiotics to eliminate the infection they operated. Standing by with a pig valve and a mechanical valve to replace the damaged valve... ... ... they were able to REPAIR the damaged valve without any artificial valve!. This was the Lord no doubt, and many were praying for her. I only tell you this because praying does help and the Lord does care. This happened in 2001/2002 and to this day she's fine.

So count me in to pray, and keep us posted on her condition.

This may not have anything to do with what you are going through. However, I was behind a guy in a Chevy 1500 this morning (I was about 1/4 mile behind) and saw him roll and roll and roll on the highway. He apprently was sun blinded and rear-ended a 10 wheel dumop truck that was plowing the shoulder in the hammer lane. I was first to his door, and was affraid to look in and see him dead. The pickup was completely trashed, the roof was caved in. Luckily he was wearing his seat belt. But, it looked like he had head trama. He was still upside down, the temp. was under 10 degree with wind chill far below. I had some people that were standing there get me some blankets so I could hold near him to block the wind. No-one touched him, but I kept talking to him for what seemed an eternity, he regained consciousness but couldn't speak. I left soon after the EMT's showed. I hope he makes it.

The reason why I'm sharing this, is in hopes that you and your family will take some comfort in the fact that she probably had someone that was talking to her to keep her calm as well.

Update: She is now off the life support system but still heavily medicated. I am so glad she is alive. She has at least two more major surgeries coming up after this weekend. I can only imagine the pain that she is going through. I wish I could take some of it for her. Continue to pray for her recovery and I thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers.

Update: AH, where to begin... . basically, she just got home a few weeks ago, since March. She has been in multiple hospitals and rehab centers. She has 2 more surgeries left to go, her knees. She is up and walking now, although it is like an 80 year old man, but she is walking. She can only go about 75 feet at a stretch but hopefully time will tell.



Seems the ER people brought her back to life twice on the table via paddles, from the initial accident. The last count ( a few months ago ) she had over 1580 stitches/staples through out. Surgeries totals, I have lost track... . somewhere between 25-30's. There was some head trauma via the "A" pillar. She has short term memory loss and searches for words at times. Some days are better than others but I guess it wont ever be the same. There is more to it , but I wont go into it on here. Maybe more time is needed.



The drunk that caused this is before the Judge very soon and will let you know if he gets out of it or not. He did plead guilty even though since the accident, he had gotten busted again for public intoxication and breaking and entering.



Thanks for the prayers for her, it meant alot to me and others.

I hope they hang that sob from the highest tree, better yet just fry him. My heart goes out to your niece. Hope you and the family are doing well through this tragedy. Thoughts and prayers for her as she recovers.

There is a path that all of us must take. Trust in the power that is much larger than all of us and follow that path. It is not guaranteed to be easy, but trust where it will take you. God Bless your niece, I hope she can make as much of a recovery as possible!

I hate to hear stories like this. When I flew with the Medevac most of our calls were drunk related. 90% of the time we were called to these accidents was to pick up the drunk because the person(s)they hit had been killed and the drunk is the only survivor. It made me more than angry every time.

I am glad to hear your niece is doing much better. Our prayer's go out to her and her continued recovery.

I know this thread is old, but will update you all again.



First I wanted to say thank you for all your suport and prayers in the time of our families need. It was greatly appreciated.



After putting her legs together and knees, ankles, she can walk now, but not very good. She will never be able to run or jog. Her femor bones actually were missing between the joints. They had to put in metal rods between them. Pins and plates in her ankles and knee caps. One of her elbows was crushed, wrist and a few broken fingers on the one side. Her hips or pelvis was plated and wired back together.



It was hard to see her in rehab, crying so bad, even with the Oxy in her, couldnt take the pain away.



Then there was/is the head trauma. She has those days where she is or has the mentality of a grade schooler and other days where she seems of a high school /college education. She is not the same person now as she was before.



She has seperated herself from our whole family. Living or going to her boyfriends house to her friends house, in different states. She can sustain herself, living on her own, but, she is a totally different person now.



I havent had any contact with her for about a year now, but often wonder how she is doing.



The young man that hit her was doing 104 mph. , when he hit her head on. He was drunk and had other drugs in his system. This happened in the state of Indiana, north of Indy.



At the trial, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do, was to keep from jumping over the railing and pounding the living crap out of him. He ended up getting 8 years in the state pen, but will be out in 4 with good behavior. Medical costs exceeded the million dollar stop loss on the insurance. I geuss the main thing is she survived and maybe can go on with life now.



Although this is a short version of the accident, I wanted to say thanks for all of your support during all this. THANK YOU !

My heart goes out to your niece and all of your family. Its a life changing event. My Mom was killed by a DUI head-on doing 100+



She is scared emotionally and it will take more time I think. I wish her and you all the best getting through such a traumatic time.
