Anyone using a supplementary fuel filter between the tank and the engine? If so, what are you using and how/where is it installed in the fuel line?

The prefilter seems to be very popular with the Duramax people due to injector problems, which is very similar to the HPCR Cummins. Popular choices are the Stanadyne fuel manager and Racor. Anyone using something similar or is there a lower micron filter available for the '04?

Using a Racor fuel/water separator. So far good. Before I put the Racor on I never saw water in the fuel when I would drain the fuel filter. Right now I am draining the Racor every fill up cause there is a small amount of water in the site glass. For the money I think it was a good investment. Bought the Racor from the KW dealership and mounted it between the fuel tank and the lift pump. The only draw back is you have to poke your head under the truck to check it. Heck, the Racor has done such a good job I think I'll put one on the ole International Farm tractor.

I have questioned the effectiveness of the OEM water separator. What Heavy Duty is saying supports my suspicions.

I would be interested in hearing from people using the FASS or Fuel Preporator. As I understand it, they remove water and AIR from the fuel. I have experienced aerated fuel on a brand "X" truck. It really effects the performance.

Ken.

I plan to eventually install a 2-micron filter assembly before the stock filter. I have not yet decided on how to do so. The preparator and FASS both use 10-micron filters, which is the same as the stock filter, so I'm not interested. Dahl makes a nice 2-micron filter, but of course you must provide your own pump. Never checked out the Racor...
