pre lube

About 10 years ago I purchased a "pre luber" (a system that pumps oil through the engine prior to starting and after turning the key off) and never got around to installing it. I thought that since I was driving my truck and would always take the time to cool down the turbo I thought that it was not necessary to install it. Now my jobs have changed, I have a company vehicle and my wife is now driving the truck. I am concerned that she will be making short trips and not cooling down the turbo before turning the truck off. Is there any concerns about this system, is opinion now that they work or is the trend moving to a "turbo timer" instead.



my truck is a 95 4X manual with no mods (boring but still fun to drive)

Are you using a synthetic oil or regular dyno. Synthetic will do 400 deg with no problem and should not coke like regular.



I think you would be ok.

My last oil change was with Rotela T but since reading the last review in the TDR I am changing back to Premium Blue (regular)

AMSOIL makes a nice prelube system. It can be mounted standalone or in conjunction with a bypass filtration system.

Just short trips around town won't be a problem unless the truck is being stopped after pulling a hill. I rebuilt my turbo at 367k after running Amsoil since 67k when I got the truck and it was completely clean inside. I shut down at 350-400 all the time.

You may want to read the update PDF on the homepage. Unless you manage to find the CI4+ PB, their CJ4 stuff looks weaker than the Rotella T. With that said, I have had both VOA and UOA done on the Rotella T CJ4, and with very good results. 10. 3 TBN on the virgin oil, 8. 2 TBN after 7,400 mile OCI.
