What is the reason for running pre or post turbo egt guages. I was planing on running pre turbo but i am not sure which is correct for me:confused: I use the truck to pull about 8000 pounds (24' enclosed trailer)Oo.

pre turbo

Hotrodhauler, I went pre-turbo, I think it is more of a true indication of your temps, simple install to drill and tap the manifold... ... ... ... ... ... ..... Kevin

Pre-turbo is the spot, with post turbo the gauge moves much slower so I believe that you could damage your engine before your gauge registered:eek:

Pre is the best IMHO for watching the egt's while moving, post might be better for watching them at shut down. I'd rather guess at the turbo failure than the engne failure.

I agree with wweverett. I had mine post turbo and it was so slow and super low. Max I ever saw even towing was 800. Go preturbo. It is much more accurate.

Found this in another thread :

Forrest

" Pre I found that with the HX35-12, 32psi & post EGT of 950 equated to 1500 pre"

If your staying stock, post is fine for shutdown etc, but if your adding any fuel,, pre is the way to go.

John,

I went post because I wanted it for shutdown, and I have stock power. Pre is best if you're upping the power. Some guys put a probe both pre and post with a switch - a good way to go. If I ever jack up the power, then I'll add a probe pre with a switch.

Dave

Hey Fireman Dave-

I'm about to rig up a pre and post turbo... how would I go about doing this with a switch?

BTW... I still got my girlfriend and today she told me she wanted to learn to change oil! I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!

You're killing me, Mark!:{ :{ Maybe you better keep her. :)

Use a DPDT switch for the pyro - I think you want to make sure it's not made out of the wrong type of metal. I read threads on that awhile back. Maybe johnrv4 will chime in - he did this on his truck.

Mark

Best be carefull, next she will want to drive it and then she will want her own CTD.

Good luck either way it goes.

I went pre turbo with mine. The temps go up fast and come down fast wait till you see it.

See Ya

Chris

Chris-

she already drives and she already wants her own CTD. BUT... she'll be driving my dually and I'm going to get a new 2500. She likes the wide rear ends anyways... "guy bootie call!" :D

She even reports to me daily about COOL trucks she's seen. Can your woman do this? :--)

good luck with your EGT gauge. My pre is a lot more fun than a post.

thanks for graphic instuction

thanks htrdhlr for the graphics, i am getting ready to install my egt, boost and fp gauges with in a week and i was torn between pre and post mounting. with your instruction i will go with the dpdt switch. i guess it well work with any gauge i am going to have seperate boost and egt gauges. :D
