Quote by JHardwick But, if you were in a coast or engine break sitution when you came to a stop, the EGT numbers pre/post would be acceptable for shut down ... ... ... ... ... what about running some fresh cool oil through those bearings? I've not once heard anybody mention this and when I'm sitting for a cool down, that's what I'm envisioning.

What he said. The EGT numbers fluctuate too fast after defueling to accurately measure turbo temps. Peak temps and sustained peak EGT temps are the determining factors that indicate when we need to cool before shutdown.

IMO pre temps are either equal or hotter than post temps at idle regardless of turbo temp. Does anyone have both pre/post to verify this theory.

I think the post guys were just hesitant to drill pre turbo. I know my nerves were on edge when I drilled and tapped the manifold.

Pre turbo for accuracy. I see you guys who install it post turbo are saying you did it to monitor turbo temps. I have 4 CTD's and using an infared temp sender/reader the turbo cools down faster than the temp pre turbo. The engine holds heat more so than the turbo. The turbo temp shows less than 300 quicker than egt does on all 4 trucks and one is around 650 hp. :D

I have pre and post probes. After the truck has been run a while, long enough for the turbo to retain some heat, the pre will cool down much faster than the post.

Thanks for all of the replies. . looks like I am going pre turbo... Wish the money tree I planted in the back yard would start producing some crop so I could get everything done...
