Guages are going to be arriving by Friday. Is there any tricks to the installation of the egt probe pre turbo. Do I need to ge a new gasket for the turbo and manifold?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

check geno's garage for pre-turbo pyrometer install instructions. Drill off center into the manifold (there is a rib in the middle, so check the instructions for exact measurements on where to drill). Drill into the manifold with a bit of oil to contain the shavings. the manifold drills very easily and only takes a few seconds. Snake a magnet inside to get any large shavings that fall in. I didn't feel the need to take the turbo off and have had no problems. Good luck.

There are lots of tricks! Some guys use grease on the bit to catch the savings, others use magnets.

I followed this link and I also used a magnet and a vacuum to get all the shavings out.

Well, I guess I just hate to clean up a mess so instead of using grease on the drill and tap I just unbolted my turbo enough to stick the flat hose piece from a small shop vac into the opening and turned it on. It sucked out the debris as soon as it came off the drill or tap and no problems...

thanks

Thanks for the info guy I will get them in this weekend and can hardly wait. Let you know about the results.

Thanks again Preston

Make sure you have the right size tap ready!Man I didn't and it left me dead in the water till I could get to auto parts store:mad: I got my gauges from Genos and they sent along their own instructions, along with manufactuers, piece of cake(if you actually read them):D James

Well, not be throwing cold water ,so to speak, on this subject, I had a pre turbo pyro for several years along with DD1's. This summer with heavy towing my exhaust manifold split right through the hole that had been drilled for the pyro. On replacing the manifold ( a $750 job) the tech told me I could have burned the valves if I had continued driving. Dodge would not drill the manifold and as of now I do not have the pyro connected to anything.

GeneA -- I am literally on the verge of installing my pre-turbo pyro (Autometer Ultralight from Geno's) and am curious about your manifold crack. Did the dealer mention how or why your valves "would get burned" if you continued driving like that (by "like that", I assume they meant with the crack and not with the pyro installed).

Any other members experience a manifold crack at the pyro install location?

Well. Tim, he said it would be the result of excessive temps. At the time I also had a leaking innercooler boot which resulted , I thought in low boost and resulting high egt's. But as some have posted here a leaking exhaust manifold will result in less turbo and low boost. I do know I was seeing very high egt's and had to keep my foot out of it. I did not get over 1300 except for brief moments. The bottom line for me right now is drilling an OEM manifold will weaken it. Just one more FYI, I was noticing a loud unusual squeal when I applied the exhaust brake and I think that was another indication of an exhaust leak.
