There SHOULD be a threaded plug. I havent been able to find mine either on my 98 12 valve.

I remove the lower rad hose and reverse flush through the HC until clear and if you have a TDS meter, the TDS is same as supply water.

I then hook up the lower rad hose,remove the rad cap and do it some more.

I then fill it with water & ride it. Repeat above for a week or so.

I then feel it's pretty purged. :-laf



I dont know anything about "HOAT". I use low silicate AF. Any name brand, or I get it from Trenton Mack. I have an account with then, and they deliver. :D
 
guess I live in a "close enough" world. . hahaha. . I'm also going to remove all of the HOAT from my truck and just run 50/50 premix diesel ELC... Its the same stuff that I use in everything with a radiator around here.



QUESTION... shouldnt there be a threaded drain plug located somewhere low on the cylinder block to get all the water out? I haven't looked yet, but most engines have them... surely the little Cummins does.



That was my plan, until I realized how my coolant stays in the block. Since HOAT doesn't play nicely with non-HOAT coolant I figured 60 mo/150K miles was better than 30K mile changes.



I gather there is a plug, but it only drains a few more quarts, not the 2-3 gallons that stay in the block.



If you look at the thread I linked you can see how the HOAT was still there, very very diluted, after 5 flushes!

Depends on what you buy. I'm running Fleetguard Compleat PG and I know for a fact there was significant amounts of HOAT left in the system after flushing.

Fleetguard told me their stuff has no chemical incompatibilities with HOAT. I'm inclined to believe them.

I guess my point is, no one should assume the worst mixing HOAT with something else. A little research is in order first.

So you saying that the factory recomends a coolant change every 30,000 miles? I thought my 06 was good until 100,000 or 5 yrs. Guess I need to look in the book.
 
That was not a reference to our OEM coolant, but most OEM coolant's in other/older rigs.

Ours is good for the 60 months/ 100K you mentioned.
