Chad,

I have the IT service manual which covers the 504 both turbo and non in perhaps a half dozen hp ratings. I am at work but will check and see what it says. I still need to get by the Case dealer and pick their brains a little. I was hoping some member would be up on this engine. Mine is rated 108PTO HP non turbo. With 3500 hours it runs sweet. Plenty of power for what I do.

I have that I&T shop manual too, and it seems to be kinda brief on most subjects, in some ways thats good, but some times I'd like to know a little more. I'm hardly a diesel mechanic, can trouble shoot basic fuel delivery and electrical things, but I'd like to know more internal stuff. I'm hardly a part-time farmer, barely even a part-time farm manager, know just enough to get myself in trouble!

Mechanics at CaseIH dealer say that 504 is a good solid engine, so luckily have friends and dealer nearby with good knowledgebase on this tractor. From what it appears is the 504 was basically the pinnacle of Case engine development before they were absorbed into Tenneco, and later merged into CaseIH. After that the engine to replace the 504 was the Cummins/CDC 505 and the tractor to replace the Case 90/94 series was the Magnum series which both appear to share some similarities. Thats the sad thing about the 80s farm collapse, seems like both Case and IH came out with products which were equal or better than Deere, just couldn't pay their bills at the time. Sorry for ramblin, farm tractor history is a subject in itself (much like whats happened in the auto industry recently).
