Premium Blue 2000 EXTREME at

I looked all over for this oil:

I know some of you have mentioned it on other sites. I called Valvoline and the guy told me that NAPA had it at a great cost. I started calling and none of the stores had it so I asked where the regional distribution center was and as luck would have it they also have a store at that location (here in Portland on Lombard. ) The other NAPA centers can get it, but you must ask for VV 70518. I think NAPA has it mismarked in their computer as being a 15w-40 where it is their full synthetic 5w-40-FULLY ENDORSED by Cummins! And by the way it cost $11. 72/gallon! At Cummins NW with my Booster Club Card it was going to be over $15.

And Oh Yes it is fully certified - even to the latest CF/SL - which somehow isn't listed on the current API website.

The CURRENT API certification for diesel oils is CH-4, with CI coming out soon. I find it hard to believe the oil you describe would be CF/SL.

Well I checked again but on the API label she states - CF/SL!

... very interesting??? Still doesn't seem right, though. I checked the link on the Valvoline site and the brochure does say it's CH-4/SL, and also meets the new CI-4. I'm sure it's good stuff - now if I can only find it.

My 2000 service manual states API service grade CF-4 or CG-4/SH. I also read about this new synthetic on Valvolines web site and they state it is API CH-4 and CI-4 has been submitted. I'm going to check Monday and see if Cummins mid-west has it in stock. If they do I will give it a try

We are talking about full synthetic here. I think most would agree that $11. 72/gallon or $2. 93/quart is a pretty decent price for a synthetic oil regardless of your brand preference.

The rating is curious

You know I looked at the API website and all the related web sites attached, and nothing mentions this rating - but there she is on the label! Now maybe the jugs are printed wrong?????? But she still carries the Big Blue Cummins recommendation.

It's weird but the service manual states that you are OK with CF rated oil.

There was a Valvoline tech talk at the TDR Nationals in August. I don't recall the exact date but I think they said that CI wasn't active until September 1st (somewhere around there) so they couldn't use the name until then even though it had already passed the CI tests. They are probably just behind on changing the API website. It's also possible that I have the date wrong and that it's still a few weeks off.

hammersley, my NAPA cant locate that part number (VV70518), they asked if you could provide the full UPC code (number) so they can look it up. It will be on the back of the bottle.

Cummins Midwest has never heard of Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme synthetic 5w40. They don't stock it. Said they have the Premium Blue and the synthetic blend. It's funny, here in SW Missouri about every fourth vehicle you pass is a diesel truck and none of the Auto parts, Walmart, etc. sell synthetic diesel oil. Does that mean something? Do these truck last as long on good old dino juice? Well I guess I am stuck saving $$$ with the Rotella

Valvoline is a lame operation. I called the product locator number for Valvoline, they said you can get it at Cummins, AutoZone, Napa. Gave me the part number that you guys already supplied. I told the guy that Cummins has not heard of it and does not carry. He gave me the part number and told me they could find it with the part number. "NO THEY CAN'T" I also called Autozone and they don't carry it and can't order it. That is what I call bad product distribution. After reading that they screwed up the API label by putting CF/SL on it, makes you wonder what they are putting in the bottle



I sent email to Valvoline letting them know just how bad their product locator service and product distribution is I let you know if they care enough to respond.

UPC Code - You Know this oil must be from MARS!!!! I typed in the UPC Code at the UPC website to ID it and while it recognizes the manufacture as Valvoline it can't ID the product. They don't have it in the database as yet! It appears that not all the wheels are on the wagon...



Anyway the UPC Code is 0 74130 70518 0

Also Cummins Northwst here in Portland and at their other locations has it as Part # 05-70518. Now that's NOT A CUMMINS # - just a Cummins NE #. They have a lot of it in stock - but even with the power booster membership it cost over $15/gallon.

Don't get fooled though. Here are the 3 grades.



Premium Blue 15/40 Normal Diesel oil



Premium Blue 2000 15/40 Synthetic BLEND 11 bucks a gallon.



Premium Blue EXTREME 5/40 FULLY Synthetic 11. 72 bucks a gallon.





It's the real deal. Changin oil tonight!!!!!

Well none of the NAPA's in my area have ever heard of it. I did find a wholesaler that will sell me a case of Delvac 1 synthetic 5w40 (4 gallons in a case) for $82. 55, seems kinda high!! That works out to $20. 53 per gallon. The wholesaler will have it in next week, said they did not sell much synthetic. I'm beginning to think that if I put synthetic in my truck I will be one of the few guys in SW Missouri running synthetic in their diesel truck. The only synthetic that I have found that was available at a normal outlet is the new Rotella synthetic 5w40, but someone said that it wasn't much better than Rotella T 15w40. So why spend the money on it I can buy Rotella T 15w40 for $33. 00 for a case of 6 gallons at Sams Club. Now someone tell me again why I should spend the extra $$$ on synthetic
