Decided to try Valvoline Premium Blue in the new truck and let me tell you it is hard to find around here. The guys down at NAPA just shook their heads, they had never heard of it. I guess nobody around here uses it in their tractors:) They finally came up with some P B Extreme 5w40 full synthetic and I told them I couldn't use the synthetic, they said that that was the only P B their books showed. Well after three days I convinced them that Valvoline made a P B fossil oil and they found a part#, from there it was only a matter of a few hours untill I had 3 gal in my hand. If anyone is planning on using Premium Blue 15w40 fossil the part # at NAPA is 70509. This might save some of you some trouble.

Valvoline thinks alot of this oil as it's priced $2. 70/gal higher than Delo, Rotella, or Delvac.

Cummins BC has 3 choices, all Valvoline. They are listing them as

Good - Valvoline All Fleets Plus 15W40 CI-4

Better - Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 CI-4

Best - Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 15W40 CI-4 (This is showing as a full synthetic)

I ran Premium Blue in my last truck and I always had to special order it from the parts place up the street. That is why I am switching to Shell Rotella. Just a whole lot easier to find. Cheers.

Try your local Wally World. A lot of them in the Midwest carry PB. My local store has it for $1. 68 a quart. Good luck.

oil

i was always told not to use synthetic iin my trucks, but i was never told why. Also, why are these oils that u mentioned better than any other product for use in a diesel engine?

thanks.

Oren.

_____________

on order for end of nov 02- 2003 quad dually 4x4 laramie.

cant wait.

Casey,

I told the guy at NAPA that P B was what I intended to use from this day on and I he wanted to sell to me he would have to start stocking it. He has.

KL,

None of the Wally Worlds around here carry P B, they carry 4 other brands of diesel oil, but not P B.

Oren,

This is true, use only fossil oil for the first 5-20K miles depending on how hard you work it. Valvoline makes a Premium Blue that is a fossil oil, and it is recomended by Cummins, in fact it has the little blue C on the label

My buddy in Michigan picked up 12 gallons for me. Brought it back home yesterday when we went for a visit. Worked out to 2. 49 Canadian per liter. That is enought oil for the next two years. Now, if Geno will stock the 4/2/1 kits I will be all set. Won't need to worry about the first oil change until the end of March. :)

Cheers, Casey

$2.49 Canadian/liter ?

Is that a deal ? I can sorta convert liters to gal, but when you through in $ Canadian to $ US, well that just overwhelms my 6th grade education. I just don't cipher that high and I'm a little weak on my gazentas.
Seriously Genos has the oil filters, Fleetguard # LF16035. I'll bet that they have the fuel filter and air filters too.
Changed my oil today and noticed that I alread had 35% restriction on my air filter I'm gonna hafta get a better intake system.
You're going to like changing the filter from below. Eassssssy!

Besides the Premium Blue and Premium Blue Extreme they also have a Premium Blue 2000, it is a synthetic blend also CI-4 etc. .

if memory is correct I've been paying $7. 00/gal at CumminsCalPacific...

Bank$,

I figgured that I could get it there, but I've convinced my local NAPA dealer to carry it now I only have to drive 5 mi instead of 35 to get oil.
