Just picked up my truck from the dealer, this is the 2nd time, (2 full days) to try and diagnose the lousy sound from the "Premium Infinity sound system". I, as well as others on this forum and others over at DTR (Diesel Truck Resource) have complained of distorted heavey bass and just plain lousy sound. This is with the bass turned all the way down and the treble all the way up.

The dealer checked it for reversed polarity after I provided the TSB, nope - thats not it, said truck didn't fall within the build dates. Then they pulled the dash to check for the right wiring harness and to see if everything else was hooked up properly, yep, said it was all correct

Basically told me there was nothing else they could do. Has anyone had success with this problem? Would different speakers solve the problem? Or would a whole new system + amp be the only answer? Which I definetly do not want to invest in at this point as I paid DCX good $$ for what I thought was a decent system. DCX - ARE YOU LISTENING?? YOUR PREMIUM INFINITY SOUND SYSTEM SUCKS BIG TIME.

I didn't want to spend $900 for the Infinity system. The truck was on the lot, only one available with everything else I wanted, and I didn't want to wait to order one. I have an '02 Impala with the base radio package that sounds 10x better than this premium POS. Same exact problems you described. I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT. However, I'm never going to convince a dealer that there's something wrong unless I could find one on their lot that sounds better than mine. What can I do??? I'm more upset at myself than anyone else. I shoulda ordered what I wanted and been done with it. Nine hundered buck, sheeesh.

Just thought I'd join in on the Inferior Infinity bashing.

I know you said that you do not want to invest in a whole new system right now, but, I just replaced my "Premium" system with a Panasonic h/u, Infinity Reference Series speakers, and a 360wt. amp for $800... (already had the sub box)... definately worth the money... Since 1987, I've always had Eclipse systems, but I didn't want to spend that much $$$ this time... . you can get great sound and not spend a fortune.....

I just got back from picking up my 2005 with the Infinity and I notice the same problem with the bass even turned down all the way sound to bassy and distorted. I have had an infinity several years ago and thought it was fine. I think we are all to something here and unless we figure it out it will be a long time before the factory gets it together enough to help--so lets all put our heads together and see if we can make some headway--does anyone know a real stereo installer and not some punk working his second job with a piercing and a too cool attitude??

I know it will be a PITA but you all might want to pull the door speakers out one at a time and disconnect while the system is running and see if it clears up when you disconnect on of them. You also might have something as simple as a speaker cone touching something. My Factory upgraded cd/cassette system sounds great 1/2 trebble 1/2 bass and full volume Oo.

Good luck,

Dave

Something has to be wrong with the system. I have mine at the normal settings and while it isn't some audiophile quality system I don't think it is nearly as bad as you guys describe.

I would also say that expecting an "Infinity" system in a Ram truck to actually sound "good" is maybe a little far fetched  We should get $900 worth but I think in most cases these things come up way short. The Bose in my Chevy was actually very good but that is rare on a domestic vehicle.

If you need good tunes I think replacing at least the speakers and adding an amp is needed. Has anybody hooked up an aftermarket amp and speakers to the stock head unit? I would go that route to keep the steering wheel controls and stock look.

My Infinity is also garbage. When compared to the Bose in my wifes '03 Tahoe it is an absolute shame. My drivers door speaker is awful and has already been replaced once. I have chosen not to pursue the issue because it appears to be the nature of the beast and I don't want my dash torn apart in vain. My luck, they would pull the dash apart, find nothing, and then I would have dash squeeks resulting from it.

My system in my 03 sounds pretty good. The only time the bass is noisy is when I have junk in the door pockets. (a bottle of aspirin and a few pens in there will make it really sound bad at higher volume LOL)

I wonder if this problem is only on the newer trucks?

Add me to the list of people who thinks the system sucks.

My 98 had the Infinity and was WAY better.

Doesn't really matter anyway. Can't hear it thru the wind whistling past the rip in the door seal. :{

Love the steering wheel controls though.

A solution For poor sounding INFINITY 6 disc

I had the same poor sounding RBQ head unit w/ infinity 6 disc. It sounded very inferior in relation to price. My dealer agreed to take back my RBQ and upgraded to the RB1 nav unit. Made a remarkable difference. The system now has tone.

A few weeks ago, I installed Kenwood's KDC-X979 Excelon top of the line audio (not video) receiver with Sirius. I noticed today that there is a high pitched ringing sound kind of like feedback coming from the rear speakers. It does it while in Sirius, FM tuner, and CD. Now that I know it's there, it's really bugging me. Is it the speakers?

My build date 11/30/2004 maybe we should track build dates on the ones we feel are not right , might help someone to locate a build problem--if anyone at Chrys cares!!!

You got a better chance of seeing Jesus walk through your front door than finding someone at Chrysler that cares about the owner.
