Ok guys this post is NOT meant to be a flame at any other product on the market, it is soley my impressions of a product I recently purchased. Here are my thoughts on the install, unit, and performance.



Today I installed a Preporator Air Dog on my 02 CTD. The unit came well packed for shipping, upon opening the boxes it was nice to see a complete kit and not just most of the pieces that I would need. By this I mean kit had every item I would need for the install, all the wiring, fuel lines, grommets, bolts, fittings, and even tie wraps. The instructions that were included were accurate and well written. The only real change to the instructions I would do different is to show a good picture of how to remove the old fuel line fitting from the tank.



The unit bolts right in on a special bracket that they supply, the position is such that it is pretty much protected even for you guys that do a lot of 4 wheeling. The mounting bracket holds the unit very securely and I don't see any future problems with it getting broken or loosening. The kit comes with new 1/2" fuel lines that run from the tank to the Air Dog then bypasses the OEM filter and goes into the VP-44. Another bonus to this kit is it does away with all the banjo fittings on our trucks. The fuel system was really a breeze to install with the only hitch being the connection on top of the fuel tank took 2 of us to get it apart. As for the electrical wiring that is a snap. The Air Dog comes with its own wiring harness (similiar to what you get with an Edge product). The harness attaches directly to the battery and is run to a relay, the relay is triggered by the ECM. The wiring harness has a connector that plugs right into the connector that supplies voltage to the OEM lift pump. Then all thats left is to run the harness back to the pump and plug it in! There is also a low pressure warning light that is supplied for installation in the cab. All I had to do was to route the wiring harness into the cab and install it where I wanted. If you would prefer a gauge you could unhook the pressure sender and screw in a sendding unit for an electric gauge, then just wire up the gauge to the wiring harness that would normally be used for the light.



All in all I will say that was one of the easiest and cleanest looking installs I have ever done. I feel better now knowing that the OEM lift pump is completely out of the picture and I really like having 1/2" fuel lines with good free flowing connectors for the fuel system. For thoughs of you looking into a better solution that the OEM fuel system I would recommend considering the Air Dog.

I installed the same unit in my 2002 HO last Friday and agree with your post in terms of the quality and completeness of the package. A quick note in the instructions to remove the blue plastic ring on the OEM fuel tank supply line fitting would have saved us a call to Air Dog. I just had my third transfer pump and second injection pump replaced under warranty 3 weeks ago, the warranty is up so I am hoping this will help.

Personally I haven't noticed any performance difference, but thats not why I bought the system. I purchased the Air Dog so that I would have an adequate reliable fuel delivery system. There may be some performance gain but I would need to do some accurate dyno testing to properly evaluate this as I do not trust the "seat-o-the-pants" meter. My initial impression is that it did smooth my idle out some but even that is subjective... ... .

What psi readings are you seeing?



From your sig it looks like you have a 0-30 psi mechanical DiPricol ??



Is the Air Dog noisy?

My profile is not correct, sorry about that... ... The truck is pretty much stock. As for FP I am not really sure exact #'s. According to preporator I believe the pump is set to 15 PSI and the warning light set for 7 PSI.



Originally I was going to not use the warning light and just go with an electric gauge. But then after seeing the unit and trying out the light I decided not to spend the extra $$ for a gauge. Personally I kinda like the light as it is an immediate attention getter, this is similiar to what we use in airplanes. There is a master warning indicator to immediatly draw our attention to a problem then we follow up the warning by verifing the instruments. I guess having both in our trucks would be the best of both worlds but the light works good for me... ...



As for noise I can't hear the pump when the truck is running. I can hear it if I bump the starter though. I feel it is quieter than the OEM lift pump (at least to my ear).
