I'll be buying a used 100 gallon bed mounted rectangular tank with fuel filter and 15 gpm fuel transfer pump from my GF's dad in a few weeks. This tank has been in storage for a few years and some has residual diesel in it. What is the recommended way to refurbish this tank for use again?

Put a few gallons of fresh diesel in it, drive around, and filter while pumping out to empty and then call it good? I forgot to see if this tank had a drain on it, but from what I remember it didn't.

Also, the fuel pump has the leads on it where I would have to manually hook to the truck battery to operate. Has anyone with this type of setup rewired to total in cab control?

-Thanks!

look in the tank with a flashlight for any rust on the sides. I would go ahead a drain the old fuel if there is not alot in there. Then let the filter on the pump do its job. I have my tank wired to the battery so when you get out and flip the switch on the pump you got juice.

I have. I built a simple electronic pump controller that will start the bed tank pump when the main tank is low and turn it off when the main tank is almost full. If you are interested email me at -- email address removed -- to discuss it and for a schematic.

Thanks! When I get the tank I will have to email you. The pump on this tank is a "Fill-Rite" with a nozzle like at a fuel station. The tank itself just is a basic white rectangular tank with no other electrical stuff on it. I'm not even sure if it has a drain on it.
