I want bring this bone stock 12v to life. I am thinking a fuel plate and injectors. I am concerned with the auto trans and would like to get some recommendations on the required mods to handle the power. It was rebuilt a while before I got it, and works well. Not sure what if anything has been done to it. I tow a 8000# gooseneck trailer and want to keep it streetable, but would love to run with the third gen trucks. I have gauges, just need to get them installed. Any info, or links to other threads would be great.

Thanks

I'm in your same position. Stock truck, want to crank it. The auto trans is the biggest downfall. There are a lot of great companies out there; ATS, Suncoast, Goerend Bros, DTT. I got a Dunrite TC for next to nothing (otherwise I would have bought an ATS Viskus Drive), but Suncoast just brought out a *****in new Valve Body. Since you tow, I wouldn't go to extreme with the power. You SHOULD be alright with a plate and MILD injectors with a VB and TC, but to be safe I would at least do the input shaft. Just my opinion though. - Buck

I'd skip the injectors for now and get a 3k gsk to go with the fuel plate. The gsk will really wake up the truck and broaden the engines range. A tuned afc and fuel plate alone will be hard enough on a stock trans without bigger injectors.

I agree with Buck, you could get away with a t/c and v/b for a while, but if i could afford it i would build the whole trans once and be done with it. Then once the trans can handle the power, drop in the injectors.

Dave

I agree 3GSK and a fuel plate some afc housing sliding and maybe alittle starwheel adjusting and you will love the truck.

But, you will need a t/c and v/b for sure otherwise you not putting the power on the ground enough to use it all I love my HTS Trans and his valve bodies rock major difference from my valve body I had worked for a trans shop. T/C go suncoast they take a beating and don't care.

Wasn't there somebody who just complained about getting crappy service from suncoast?? I think it was smokinrod. He runs an HTS transmission now don't they use suncoast convertors? I am very happy with Dave Goerends trannies.

What number and whose plate are you guys using? I have looked at The TST site, not sure on what size fuel plate for my CPL. I am quite close to HTS, about 30 miles, so I was going to give him a shout. Also with a fuel plate change, does, or should the pump timing be changed and how much?

Thanks for the input.

Pull the little inspection pan off the bottom of the bell housing. Make a mark on the TC so you can tell where you started. Rotate the TC looking for a drain plug. If it has one it's an aftermarket replacement TC. The stock one does not have a drain plug. If it's painted some color let us know what color. A stock TC is not painted.

You can add me to the list of complaints. PM me and I'll tell you why.

I'm now a Happy Goerends Customer.

Dollar for Dollar, you can't go wrong with a Goerends.

Zstroken Yes HTS uses Suncoast t/c because they are excellent.

Smokin was complaining about a full suncoast trans, but suncoast convertors are strong haven't heard from HTS of any that have went out in his trans one that got taken out do to a twisted billet shaft in A 12. 4 sec 2004. 5 drag truck.

Most of HTS trans are in either pulling trucks or drag truck, plus he has alot of them that a just drove but those people don't have him do as much to thier trans. He asks you what you are going to do with it and what you want it to do and build to suit your need.

Goerend and the rest all build good trannys other wise they wouldn't be in business just some hold up longer and then some put more power to the ground then other to each his own. plus cost is a factor. I know couple guys that used goerend have switch to HTS.

Dragster Rob-- with a fuel plate you don't have to adjust timing, it's after you get into dv's and injectors you will want to adjust some help with smoke and egts some.

I really like my TST #5 and with just that and a 4GSK and HTS trans in my sig I was running 15. 21 in the 1/4 mile and it pulled my 3000 lbs cargo trailier like it wasn't thier and hmmed along pulling my 25' Cruisier INC. cabin cruisier to lake Michigan.

With a fuel plate you don't need to do timing it after you get into the

I killed a Suncoast converter with 300hp. They wanted to Charge me to repair it. I was within the "3 year unlimited HP, unlimited milage" they had at the time.

Again, send me a PM and I'll tell you the whole story.

KingS, I am not bashing HTS at all. Seems they are up and coming in the diesel world and people report good things from them. I haven't killed my Goerend transmission and I imagine I probably am up there in abusing stuff(spider gears, twisting splines on driveshafts). Dave is just super to deal with and until he gives me a reason to switch I won't.

I am leaning towards the 3kGSK and the TST #5 plate. Still have yet to pull the cover and check my converter. First I need to install the gages I saved from on of my old trucks. How hard is the GSK to install? and the fuel plate as well.

Thanks

DragsterBob,

You can look at my signature for my prescription for towing and fun. Driving it sanely will net 20 mpg and it will run high 14's in the quarter. Towing my enclosed trailer (6-7K#) truck will usually get 13-14 depending on how fast you want to get there.

Finally pulled the cover, converter is bright red, no drain plug.
