Prodigy Problems

Airborne Camper

Hey Campers,

I have a 34' 5er and I am considering buy a tire pressure monitor like Pressure Pro ($690) for 10 wheels. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with these monitors and what do you recommend?

I also am going to buy a PacBrake and naturally want to get a good deal on it so where would the best place to buy one be? Camping World wants 6 hours labor @ $99 per hour so if anyone in the Las Vegas area knows of a good mechanic, let me know.

Thanks,

Stan Mitchell

I got the SmarTire and LOVE it. It temperature compensates the pressure curve so you are looking at dynamic pressure vs temperature.

I put it on the 3500 and the 5er. MUCH MUCH peace of mind when towing. You KNOW what is happening back there.

I'm considering getting that Smar-tire system as well for my 36' 3 axle trailer... I've had 2 blowouts and never felt either one of them... have the trailer leveled for towing now so maybe will never have a problem but like you said, you know when the pressure goes ZIP!!... .

I will probably have a regular tire mechanic install them. . any Idea if reballancing is needed? I imagine so...

I had one for several years and it works very well. It is nice because it doesn't require you to dismount the tires to install the sensors. or change the sensor batteries. Sensors can be easily removed if the trailer goes into storage or is parked for any length of time.

Hi

I have had the pressure pro for over a year now. Would not run without it. Some of the best money I ever spent.

I had one major blow out and one tread loss during my last trip of 4,000 miles. Both time significant sheet metal damage and needs some work. I am considering the Doran system pressure monitoring system and you have just confirmed that I should get the system. By the way I check air pressure everyday before travel and look for tire damage or tread seperation and still had the tire problems. I have weighed the trailer and tires not over weight nor is tire pressures low with the weight on each tire.

Works for me

I installed the Pressure Pros on Thursday and hit the road Friday heading for CA. The trailer tires started with 80 lbs. and after a few miles in the Vegas heat the read 85 lbs. They are a great product as the tire pressure is monitored every 5 seconds but the pressures aren't displayed until something goes wrong or you push the button and check them yourself. To mount them on a dually you have to remove the "skins" and if your hands aren't too large you can reach through the holes and screw them in. I'm in Redwood City, CA now and got 10 baggies with a magic marker and removed the sensors as they could be stolen. If I can install them it has to be easy:)
