Pressure Washer

The siding on my house looks scummy and needs to be washed. I should get a pressure washer, but don't know what features I want on it. I'd be cleaning my siding and my deck mostly. I'm a wimp, I don't lift heavy objects.

I bought a 2700 PSI washer from Home depot, and it is really nice. You dont need any more pressure than this, and it is easy to roll around. I think it's made by Excell. Get one with the removable tips.

The most important features in a pressure washer is the pump. It must have ceramic plungers (pistons). Good brands of pumps are CAT (5 yr warranty) and probably the best, then Comet or AR. The brand of pump will affect the price, I have an Excell ZR2800 from Home Depot but caught it on sale (CAT pump). Some good sites on web for pressure washers. Other features to look for are hose length (50') , aluminum frame and low oil shut off on the engine (Honda GX series engines). Hope this is helpful and good luck. My philosophy is I only want to buy most tools once, so I generally go for better grade equipment.

i went with the 2750 from home depot to. I blew it up after 8 minutes of use and took it back and got another and it lasted about 15 minutes. They said that it is the first ones they had problems with. I checked the oil before use and it was full. Both of the motors just cracked right at the bolts. Kind of wierd. It just went bang when I let off of the trigger. It was a Exel with honda motor and heavy duty looking pump.

I have a Generac I got off the used rack at Home Depot. I was doing a car project and figured if it lasted through that I would be happy. It's been five years and I have washed houses, decks, motorcycles, trailers, and of course the Ram. I always make sure all the water is out of it for winter and keep the oil checked.

Be careful not to get your hands or any other body parts near the tip!

I have a Craftsman 6. 5 horsepower 2500 psi, I have had it for about 6 years and it has seen heavy use. The pump finally went out on it this year but it only cost about 100 dollars to fix. I use this thing just about every week to clean the tractor, the truck, cement around the barn, the barn, the house and everyone I know is always borrowing it. It has been a really good machine, I had a Home Depot one or a Lowes one before this one, can't remember the make though but that didn't last a summer before the pump went out.
