Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Pressurizing intake/intercooler to 30psi?

I have tried testing the system with the oem air filter hose and with a thick rubber FERNCO plumbing coupler, but they both start leaking around the turbo at 10psi, plus they look as though they might burst at anything higher. I need another methodto test. I feel that my leek doesn't really show itself until 30psi, so I need to test that high if I'm going to find it.

Testing

Remember the air filter hose only sees atmospheric pressure. Try disconnecting just below the turbo and using something to fit that line, you might be able to slip a blind in on the other side where the air heater is by removing the grid or maybe at the last rubber connection on that side. For your safetys sake be careful, anything propelled out of there a 30 # pressure could do a lot of injury/ damage. I was testing the intake manifold from a Chevy with 20# and the plug I had iin the outlet hose blew out like a cannon ball, fortunately it didn't hit anything nearby. bg

I made 2 - 3" plugs out of plastic stock at work. The stock was just big enough to leave a ridge on the inner edge to help hold them in. I tapped one for a tee and gauge. I took the turbo outlet ell off and put the plug/gauge on the first rubber coupler out of the turbo and the plug in the last coupler that goes into the intake horn. I thought my clamps were tight enough but 10psi showed 3 big leaks on the hot side. They like to leak right under the step in the clamp - where the flat band comes over the channel shaped piece. Then I went up to 20 and then 30. The same places that leaked at 10 had to be tightened more. It's sure quieter now! The cold side was fine. I think the clamps w/springs would be good. Be darn careful - I heard about some guy that got a broken tooth when the plug popped out... OUCH! Craig
