I have a 2001 HO truck that I purchased in 2002. It currently has about 80,000 miles on it.

Every time I change the fuel filter, I have a difficult time pressurizing the fuel lines. The owner's manual says to bump the starter 3 or 4 times until the pump goes off, and that should re-pressurize the system. NOT. I usually have to go through that sequence 10 or 15 times before the truck will start.

At about 70,000, I changed the fuel transfer pump. I thought I never would get that rascal re-pressurized.

Is there a more effective way to pressurize the fuel system?

Also, does anyone know of a reasonably-priced source (mail-order) for oil and fuel filters?

Hi Marty and welcome to the TDR.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? How does it run after it starts? Fuel Transfer (Lift) Pumps have been known to go out in less than 10,000 miles. There are numerous solutions to this problem, and months worth of reading about them here in the TDR. TDR Search on "Lift Pump"

Check out TDR Search on "Lift Pump" ]Genos Garage[/URL] for mail order filters.
