Drag race in Seattle

I'll post more after the issues are settled, but it looks like MM02 will be outrageous. How about mud bogs, sled pulls, dirt circle track time trials, drag racing, dyno testing, plus all those "traditional" things like the Lake Mead cruise, show-n-shine, hall of gottahavits, tours of Diesel Dynamics and J&S Diesel. Rick Peet Dodge in Pahrump NV (about an hour out of Las Vegas) wants us to take over the whole town for the event! In case you haven't visited Pahrump in some years, it has really grown and has top notch casinos, RV parks, etc. now. Much nicer than Mesquite was, imho, in 1997. We hope to get support from Cummins and maybe Dodge to exceed the value of prizes from last year (which was somewhere around $8000) for the drawings at the banquet.

The event will probably be 4-5 days. Three of the days are May 2-4, 2002. Moving the event up will get us a bit cooler weather while still being _May_ Madness to keep its tradition and to work around the timing of other TDR events. Most attendees are from out of town, so I don't expect Pahrump to have any significant downside compared to Vegas for the primary location. OTOH, the presence of many things we want to do being there will lessen the driving across town that is inevitable in Las Vegas, minimize commuting times, and ease the stress of driving around. We are also able to add attractions that we couldn't easily do in LV, where we are not a big event for them. (Pahrump will consider us a big event so we will get good hospitality, I believe). We were treated VERY well by Arizona Charlie's-East last year, but we had to work around other events at the Speedway and did not have the option of dirt events like the roundy-round track, mud bogs, or sled pulling. These things are BIG attractions elsewhere such as Tulare, Muncie, etc. With the LV traffic jams, driving across town can be more stressful and almost as time consuming as going from Pahrump to J&S or DD. About the only things that will necessitate trips to the LV area will be these tours of DD and J&S, and the Lake Mead cruise. If we can't get drag racing up at the Pahrump track, then a trip to the LV Speedway would also happen.

BTW, the only winery in Nevada is in Pahrump for those who like tours of local attractions.

Art Bell, radio talk show host, lives in Pahrump. He has a good sized motor home, not sure if it has a Cummins in it. www.artbell.com has a picture of it in his gallery. He could be invited too:cool: Art is also an avid Ham guy. National celebrity attends May Madness... . :D
