2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Price for accesories when selling truck?

I can't believe I'm writing this, but I'm thinking of selling my Ram. I have some nice accesories on it (see sig) that I carefully choose and installed myself. My question is what is a fair price for the accesories if I sell the truck? Half of what I paid for them? Less?

SORRY to be the bearer of bad news - but traditionally, added accessories won't usually add a DIME to the value of your rig - unless you find an individual who really craves the same add-ons YOU did! They MIGHT help make the rig more easily sold - but face it, stuff that appealed to YOU may in many cases NOT be valued or even WANTED by buyers who would otherwise like your truck! Things like lift kits, oversize whells/tires and tool/fuel boxes and 5th wheel hitches appeal to a FEW - but are unneeded and obstacles to others who don't want, like or NEED those accessories!

Second what Gary said. Most times you are better off removing the accessories if you can use them on your next rig or sell them separately without leaving a hole in the truck. This even includes the gauges, most buyers don't care. Even worse on a trade-in. Good news is you can easily sell most of your accessories here on the tdr classifieds.

A few months ago Scott D a TDR writer put his project 2 Timer up for sale. Apparently he added the full price of his assessories + Labor for installation in the asking price.

Thanks for the input. I remember when 2 Timer was for sale... that's what prompted my question. I knew the accessories weren't worth full price anymore, and you can't really re-sell labor.

I'm trying to figure a ball park value for the truck. Removing the accessories simplyfies that.

When I bought my Ram in August of last year (can't believe I'd had this truck almost a year!! ) it came with:

a gooseneck hitch

reciever hitch

TXXXXXXXXX (starts with T but can't spell it) brake box

DeeZee Aluminum Toolbox / bed caps / & tailgate protector plate.



All of this was not added in on my price. I bought it from a friends dad who still owed on it so I picked up a nice truck with only 123,XXX miles with all of those accesories for a great price.

After buying my new truck, and realizing the loss I would take on the accessories I had on the old one I still had, I removed as many as practical, and transferred them to the new truck, then sold the '91 with what was left. The old truck went with all the Banks upgrades, a US Gear OD and full guages - plus a 5th wheel hitch and brake controller... Since the young fella who ended up buying the truck WAS interested in pulling a trailer, the hitch and related stuff WAS of some value to him - I got slightly above top book value in this area - but certainly NOT the $3500 or so additional those accessories had cost ME!

One of the TDR writers a year or two ago, offerred his truck with LOTs of upgrades for sale, explaining that before the dealer would take it in trade, they would require that those upgrades be removed and the truck returned to stock

Bingo! There in lies my quandry. I don't like the 2003. My 2001/2500 has 93K on the clock. DC has $4,300 rebate plus a little from my dealer. My 2500 has $5,000 worth of extras to do my job and make my life easier. So, I am going to buy a 2002/3500. Use my 2500 as a trade and buy it back. Put both the trucks in my shop and SWAP all my stuff! Blow out my 2001 for $20K and start over. Otherwise I have to keep my 2001 or lose all the stuff that is on it because it will not fit a 2003. I think I need to trade trux.

Barry-if your credit is good just negotiate a screaming deal and they will give it to you with no down. Strip your old truck and sell and save yourself the resale taxes. GE
