I found this web site browsing through the TDR a while back. Called them up and ordered some parts and found out they have great service and a knowledgeable staff. Prices were very good too. Check them out.

The guy I deal with is Erric. Thought I would pass this along as I had a good experience with them as a customer.

Mark,

Have you used that pump? Is it OK for diesel?

The general info says it works with diesel, but the application says it's for gas???

Matt

Yes, I've used it and have one on my truck.

from the summit page...

These universal rotary vane electric fuel pumps from Carter operate using leaded and unleaded gasoline, gasohol, diesel fuels, and fuel boosters. They have an internal pressure regulating valve, and feature free-flow fuel delivery. These pumps have no points to burn out, and no shaft seals to leak or deteriorate. Easy to install, these universal fuel pumps come with a complete installation package and instructions.

I used that pump too on my last 01 it ran for 30K until i sold the truck with it still in place.

I went with a Holley Blue on this truck, Dunno why just wanted to see how it did.

Thanks Mark, I just ordered one.

I had a failing lp in the stock scenario, so I moved it by the tank and upgraded to 1/2" lines. It worked awesome until recently, I attribute it's ultimate failure to the original working conditions. It was a pump most would have thrown away at that point, but put out excellent WOT pressures from it's new home. I hope this new pump will get me by for a year or two. It will certainly be nice not to have to re-tap the threads on this version.

Matt

Hi Mark I went to that carter site and clicked on the link next to the pumps and a bunch of pumps popped up. Do you know if our oem pump is one of those pumps?

what kind of presure is that pump giving you, or are the presures the same as the oem pump.

Thanks

the summit site lists several pumps but the CRT-P4601hp is regulated to 16psi our stock pumps are ~14-15psi.

Earl's Performance carburetor inlet fittings are made from aluminum and feature a blue anodized finish. They are available for several applications

If I remeber right... the barbs that come with the pump ar 3/8" which is the same size as -6an hose. The quick connect fitting on the factory feed line can be cut off and clamped to

To summarize:

to get rid of all banjos and replace the lift pump-

1 x P4601hp

3x EAR-991944ERL

2x 3/8 npt - -6an male fitting

4 x 90* -6an male to female (if using straight fittings on hoses)

1 x 45* -6 m-f

5 -6 an pushlock fittings

~3' of -6 pushlock hose

the harness from the factory pump can be reused. It's held on with 2 nuts on 2 studs.

If you wat to use braided stainless get the 90* and 45*fittings for the hose ends. use a piece of pushlock for the pump inlet so you can clamp it to the factory supply line. Pushlock (rubber oil resistant stuff) will fit in a std aeroquip fitting but it is not recommended for high pressure. it's in a vacuum in this case.

When you get done your truck is equipped to supply fuel up to about 600 hp and your lift pump should live a long happy life because all of those #$%^&*(

banjo fittings are gone. Before someone asks why... the stock pumps have two failure methods electrical (sudden or intermittent failure) and decreased pressure over time (regulator pressure release valve goes bad). The stock pump is bleeding off pressure through the relief even under load because the banjos are too restrictive. once they're gone the pumps seem to live a lot longer. I haven't had the aftermarket pump fail yet but others have been less lucky.

Mark

Kind of a long story, definately not a design I that I recommend. It would be easier and most likely cheaper to buy a high quality electric pump or a RASP system. I picked up somewhere that these carter pumps do not pass fuel through them when they are not running. This is the reason for the by-pass plumbing, to allow me to limp home. this project is still a work in progress, if I follow through, I expect to replace the $60 check valves with $5 manual ball valves. I have also put together a page of parts (not posted yet) from McMaster-Carr, which is more of your local hardware store variety of parts. surprisingly, this did not shave much off the cost.
