So I just changed the fuel filter on my 24v for the first time myself and the directions say to prime the pump after new filter. the owners book does not say how. I didn't think you had to crank it full again. ?? Any info would be nice!!!!! Thax
To prime the fuel pump you just need to have the key in the 'run' position and then bump the starter. Do not attempt to start the engine right off, just listen for the starter to engage for a brief moment.
If done properly, you should hear the electric lift pump running for 25-30 seconds. If the lift pump is healthy, you should be good to go after doing this a couple of times.
If the lift pump is starting to go, you will have to read up on other ideas. (I just went through hell on my '99 yesterday with this problem)
=====================
I was able to prime a weak lift pump system after a fuel filter change by running an air tight siphon into the fuel filter test port from a jug of diesel above the engine.....
