Picked up (and installed -what an excruciating wait!!) my new filter restriction guage from the Cummins place today (Las Vegas Cummins Intermountain on Losee Road) ... Cool-looking little unit. . 3 main pieces, 2 of which are adapter plates, and one is the indicator, a few little o-rings and some REAL SMALL #ad
allen bolts--- I'm not a FAT-finger kinda guy, but the 15-minute install could have been 5 with a little design improvement and some larger allens---- enough ******* and moaning, it's on fer cryin' out loud!
The indicator attaches right onto the front of the filter-head, (designed for the newer "black-butterfly" filter-head, not the older silvery rectangle--will need adapter of some type)---simple little red/green plastic rod behind a clear window. . hidden coil spring in one end. . small amt of pressure comes from both "clean" and "dirty" side of filter--when the "dirty" pressure is 5psi higher than the "clean" side, the red is all that shows (shame on you! #ad
)... all green-minimal restriction #ad
half-n-half abt 2. 5--HVAC should change filters there!! #ad

There's probably a politically correct pink/purple version for California, so as not to discriminate against red-green colorblind people, or those who have a pink/purple "preference #ad
" #ad

The Prime-Loc fuel pressure differential gauge is a trick (and useful) little gauge. I've had my Prime-Loc fuel filter relocation kit and fuel restriction gauge installed for over a year and a half now. Heck, I even had to give Cummins NW the gauge part number (from the TDRelease article) at the time I ordered all the other Prime-Loc components.

Rich, the gauge is easier installed onto the Prime-Loc filter mounting base prior to mounting the assembly to the engine although, I would take adequate protective measures for the face of the gauge.

I am really considering getting one of these units when I get my '01. Is it really worth it? Does it make filter changing that much easier? How easy is it to install?

howdy,Jon--my Primeloc's been on since November (Happy b'day 2 me/Happy b'day 2 me!)
--didn't even know about such a guage 'til I saw one (earlier design -round little dial) on another guy's truck---this's a rectangular spring-loaded bar behind a window. . same purpose, different look... . for the ease of filter changes, on a 12-valve they are a Godsend-- the overvalved have a better location to begin with, but I haven't had to deal with that---others' double-dozen opinions? let this future overvalved guy know whether Primeloc is "investment" or "just pretty decoration"---for us "primitives" there's pretty much no debate

You are right Rich! The Prime-Loc on a 12v is a necessity, only a luxury on a 24v. That said, I prefer replacing the entire filter (cartridge) assembly used by the Prime-Loc as opposed to replacing the OE filter element and all the little O-rings. In addition, the two differents filters cost just about the same price. When changing fuel filters it's extremely unlikely you will introduce (unfiltered) foreign material into your fuel system with the Prime-Loc setup, especially when you have to do it in the dark along the side of the road in the middle of the night.
