Left my truck set for a week and went to start it and it had lost it's prime. Cracked the bleed plug on top of the fuel filter and pumped the primer and the boot came off in pieces. Question is, can you buy the boot or do you have to buy the pump, or do I need to even worry about it? I suppose one could be fashioned out of inner tube or something in a pinch. I presume I lost prime due to the return lines. I ordered them and the starter contacts from LarryB's and I'll look it over good for other possible leaks when I replace them. I had noticed a fuel smell under the hood recently. Truck has 98,600 miles on it. Runs great!

I would think you could get a new boot for it from Cummins or a dealer. I wouldn't let it go without one. Dirt and crud could get in and possibly freeze up the plunger.

Thats kind of what I thought too. I stopped at Cummins after work this morning. The night shift parts gal was new and clueless. I'm going to stop tomarrow afternoon and talk to the regular dayshift parts people. I did look in the parts book and it didn't show the boot as a separate part, but I also looked at the shut off solenoid and it didn't show that boot as a part either and I know you can get that.
