Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Printable proof needed

I need to find printable proof that the lift pump is covered by the 100,000 mile warranty. 2 dealers in the area both say no, not covered after 3/36 and the other says 7/75. I did ALOT of searches on this site and found alot of warranted lift pump threads, but nothing I can print out and bring to the dealer to prove warranty.

I felt the truck flatten out (no power when towing) then come back to life while running at a steady 70mph. Got back home and did the gauge install--about 8 1/2 psi @idle and 2psi@WFO unloaded. No time to trailer yet, but I assume that when going up 5 mile hill (Rt80 in the Pocono PA area), fuel pressure will hit 0 psi.

Can anyone help me with this?

I see you are listing your truck as a "98. 5. " It is out of the 5 year limit which is voiding the coverage.

Sounds like you're past warranty by age, go to Cummins buy a pump for $150 and do it yourself.

I bought it new in June 2000. I wanted it warranteed because if the vp44 goes bad, the damage will have been documented during the warranty period. ( lift pump takes out vp44)

If no warranty, then yes, I will install a new one asap.

It is, however, covered with the 100K coverage,right? Anywhere I can get proof?





Red Bank is pretty neat, Been to the Count Basie a few times, and River Fest is always fun.

Some model years it falls under the emissions warranty tha goes to 75k, I know my 2001 warranty was the 5/100. Any dealer can input your VIN and the part number and it will automatically tell them if it's covered under warranty. Sounds like that maybe what the one dealer did that said 75k.

The warranty is 5 years OR 100k miles whichever comes first. It is past 5 years so the warranty is now void.



Get to Cummins for a new LP and change that sucker ASAP.



On a side note... when I bought my truck used last year, the dealer said the engine was covered by a 7 year / 100k warranty. I should have got that in writing

He bought the truck new in June of 2000, meaning he has over 1 year left time wise, not sure about his mileage.



Your logic behind the VP44 failure doesn't make sense. You seem to want and try to get DC to pay for it when/if it goes due to a prior warranty fix. If your truck is out of warranty, I don't think you're going to find any dealer who will share your logic on the VP44 failure. Although I can't blame you for trying to save a couple bucks.



The logic I've seen as far as getting the warranty on the lift pump, assuming you have a 5year/100k warranty, is that it is a Cummins part, hence covered by the same warranty as the rest of the Cummins. I think it makes sense, then again I'm a consumer not a dealer.

How could some dealer have a brand new 98. 5 truck on their lot in 2000? That just doesn't seem right unless the dealer was using it as a company asset (i. e. worktruck) is which case I'd say that would border on being illegal representation i. e. selling as new.



Just seems bizarre that a dealer would be making payments (i. e. "flooring") on truck that was 2 model years old.
