Changes regarding the other forum

search ?'s

I use the PM feature a lot with caretaking the kdp jigs and folks asking questions and see need for improvement. Lots of times folk's boxes are full or they have mail and don't know it unless they check often. Could the default be set to the beginning instead of two days? It would also be nice have the option boxes at the bottom of a new message defaulted to unchecked, especially the Save a copy one. That's where folk's accumulate messages unknowingly and boxes get full . Don't remember what the default is for notification but it should be yes for both the popup box and email notification, people just don't routinely visit the private message forum.

On to a problem, many times I receive no popup, email notification nor even an indication on the Roundtable page PM forum that I have mail. Many times it's a inconsistent mix of the three. If this is happening to others I can see why many people don't answer their mail. This makes for a real PITA when dealing with the jig. Any improvements you could dial in would be appreciated. ~~Bill

Mine has always worked good. I did let the box get full once recently to see how many it would hold. I get an e-mail and if I happen to be on here I get the pop-up too. Not sure why others aren't working.

OK -since you are discussing PM I have a question. How in the heck do you save a message. Had this figured out once upon a time but now it looks different. I end up deleting messages just to kep from getting the pop ups all the time. I tried moving messages but where are they moved to?

As you can tell, computers are not one of my stronger points!:(

You can just leave the message in your inbox if you want to save it or click folders then create a new folder for storing messages. As for making the popup box stop after you read the message, the only ways I've found is to delete the message, move it to another folder or log off then come back. Otherwise, for me at least, the popup will return every time I switch to a new forum page even after clicking cancel.

I have the same problem as illflem on occasion, I don't recive a PM pop-up when in fact, I have new mail. Small issue, but just to let you know.

Thanks, Rob

I have had this problem as well. One option that I have no clue as to rather it's possible or not is to, if your inbox is full, send the whole thing as an e-mail insted of loseing the message that you, or they just typed. Also being able to send YOUR PM's to an e-mail account so that you can delete them from the TDR inbox. Am I making since?

I'll look into the possibilities of making those changes when I get back to Michigan and have all my programming tools at hand. Good suggestions. I'm in Atlanta right now doing some work on the servers and visiting co-location facilities. It'll be next week before I can get to it.

Txdieselkid - unforetunately those changes would require a lot of programming to make happen. That programming would have to be redone every time a new version of vBulletin is installed so it's not really feasible.

My shoulder was bothering me a bit tonight so I wasn't ready to go to sleep (sitting here with my ice box running on the shoulder). The default to "Save a copy" and "Request Read Receipt" are both off now. The private message list now also defaults to "the beginning" - good suggestions illflem.

The default setting is for email notification of PM's and a popup for PM's is on. Yours is the first time that I've heard from anyone that they aren't getting the popups or emails. Is anyone else having this problem? Can you think of anything in common when you've had that problem illflem?

Once you've read a message in your PM box the popup shouldn't come up after that. It will come back if for instance let's say that you click on the 2nd gen forum and the popup comes up. You read the message and open it in a new window. Then, after reading it on the first window you click on a thread, then you click on back to get back to the thread list. It will pop up again at that time because your machine doesn't redownload that page from the server when you hit back. What you can do is at that point hit the refresh button and then it won't come back up. It's always worked this way for me - let me know if it doesn't work that way for you and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks Steve, I'll keep my eye out for a related situation next time it doesn't work. What inspired me to ask for changes though was yesterday when I went to my PM box to retrieve an address from my KDP folder and had three new PMs with no notification, clicked back to the Roundtable page and it said I had 0 unread messages. With the default set at 2 days if I didn't happen to check for two days I might not have found them. Usually it works great though, I always have my email program open in the background whenever I'm on line, if I'm on TDR and the PM popup appears the new message tone for my email sounds within 10 seconds.

I'll bet with the default set to the beginning that lots of folks are going to find mail that they didn't know they had.

I get no notification quite a bit. The box fills up way too fast too, now that I'm temp N. E. jig caretaker.

I'm sure that nothing can be done about it, but more space in the box would be nice.

just a round about suggestion

I keep a word document on my machine called TDR-INFO. doc. Anytime I read something I think might be usefull information later on, I just copy and paste it onto this file. Things like personal info people have sent me and step by step procedures for working on my truck. That way I dont have to rely on the web site. Doing searches can take time and losing data can be the pitts.

tpc, I do much the same but instead use Outlook Express since it's usually already up. Have one TDR folder broken into several subfolders such as part numbers, links, directions, etc. Just paste what I want on a new mail then send it straight to the sub folder. Works great.
