The string that connects the shifter and indicator broke. I would like to get a replacement. The Dodge parts websites are no help. Has anybody replaced this piece?

I don't have a problem driving it, its the fact I live in Virginia, california's evil twin. State inspections are getting worse every year. I would like to get it fixed correctly. It goes by many names depending on who you talk to.

I saw a post about this problem someplace lately. The common answer was get a piece of string (or thread) and put it in. Simple and inexpensive! ;)

Last one I replaced I got from the dealer. Way too much for a piece of string and aluminum but it was easy. :)

Hey J,

I have one of those if you need it still? The best way to replace this is to pull the whole cluster. I know, sounds like a pain, but it is. :-laf Anyway, the cable goes into the indicator assembly which is held onto the cluster by two screws. The cable is hooked to the needle. If you need this (I pulled it from an '87) I'll just leave the whole indicator assembly together and ship it. It's not worth fighting the cable off of the needle. The tricky part when going back together is hooking the cable back up to the steering column shell, not bad though. PM me for details and $ if you need this? Take care! (might want to put new bulbs in if pulling the cluster)

Andy,

Aprreciate the offer but from the looks of your pic there is a difference between the 87 and 93's. I pulled the cluster earlier today, which was no big deal. The indicator needle for mine comes from the bottom. There is a small hole on the bottom were the cable would feed through. If someone has managed to fix this I would love to know how.

Ahh, OK. Did not know that. This cable does feed up from the bottom, but that's why I love pictures. Keeps my simple mind interested and answers questions. ;-)

JAlderman,

I replaced mine about a year and a half ago. They're available from the dealer for around $18 or so. Upon removing the indicator, the back portion of the assembly appeared to be riveted. I'm sure you could drill out the rivets but I have no clue how the cable is attached inside to the needle itself. I pondered for about 5 minutes and then just ended up ordering a new one online. It was also a good time to clean out all the dust that had build up behind the cluster.

Aloha,

Matt

Do you still have the part number? I would like to order one online but the Dodge parts website is not showing anything.

I never found it listed either so I sent an e-mail and after the part was confirmed, I did an order via e-mail. It was at MoparPartz.com. If you're dealing with another Dodge site, just shoot them an e-mail because not all parts are listed and you'll go bonkers trying to search for it. Oo.

Aloha,

Matt

Not sure if this is the case or not, but years ago I had a 1990 plymouth voyager and it had an indicator that looked very similar to the ones our trucks used. came up from the bottom even, Just something you might want to look into because there are millions of em in the junkyards.

I actually have a PRND21 indicator in my pickup (yeah, set up for an auto or manual  ). the cable hooks into the bracket (fo r ack of a better term) on the column. The trick I have had trouble with is getting the bracket to the right distance to keep it accurate- says "P" when in Park, but not quite "N" when in Drive if you arent careful. Takes some trial and error.

I went to the Dealer for the part number and price just for simple curiosity.

56006824 for $80 and some change, Online $50.

The parts guy said he was showing 3 nation wide and I just ordered one online. When I take my old one back out I'll see if there is an easy fix.
