Problem after going through car wash

Ok... ... ... ... . this sounds stupid. The truck runs fine and then, every now and then, after going through the car wash or even a deep puddle at highway speed I will get sputtering and misfiring, water in fuel light, check engine light. It is basically undriveable. If I let it dry out for a day, the lights go away and it runs fine. I know that moisture is getting somewhere it shouldn't be. anyone come across this? Today I attempted to put a flap or shield down around the ecm loom connections to see if this helps. Ideas welcome... ... ... ... ... .....

What year truck do you have for one.

Two. Can you pull any DTC's from the odometer.

If you don't know how turn the key on (not start) and off three times ending in the on position. The odometer should show you any codes stores in the computer. If done is displayed then there are no codes.



three. Have you look around your engine and wheel wells for loose or corroded connectors or grounds? Loose/corroded grounds on these trucks are a known problem and cause a multitude of issues.

I have not pulled the codes, only because they cleared on their own. When you say corroded or lose grounds are you talking about the battery cable connections to the frame or block? The truck is an 04. 5. I do have a Van Aaken C5 on the truck. I was concerned that the loom connection was causing the problem, but it looks solid and watertight.

There was a recall on the '03s and 04s for corrosion in the ECM connectors. I think it was bad seals letting water (road spray?) get inside the connectors.



I didn't think that recall involved the '04. 5s, but I could be wrong on that.

On mine the 2 plugs going to fuel filter housing

were shorting out when I went threw car wash

or rain storm. I sealed with a good sealer,

no more problem.

That fuel filter housing sensors sounds interesting, because the fuel in water warning comes on as well as the check engine. Ironically I know it isn't the fuel for the reason I run the same fuel (same station) in my 03 ram and my 03 sterling with a mercedes MBE900 and have no problem with either of those. My 04. 5 is running an air dog fuel air separator, so the stock filter/water separator has been completely bypassed, but the sensors are still in place. Will try sealing those plugs and making sure grounds are tight and corrosion free. Thanks for the info.
