Having just traded my 1999 3500 for a new 06, I was wondering what problem areas I need to watch for with this new generation (to me) engine? I have been familiar with the KDP, the lift pump and injector pump and several other problems with the 12 and early 24 valve engines but I am a newbie to this new engine. The new engine really seems like a great unit but woe be onto me if I try to work on it like the older ones!!

Thanks everyone.

Pretty solid machine really. The transfer pump is in the tank for '06, nobody seems to know for sure if that is good or bad though. My '06 has almost 30k on it now and not a single issue, other than a couple dumb recalls. My '03 has nearly 100k on it and runs like a champ still, never a single engine issue. Ball joints and u-joints have been done but thats about it.

I would say, if it is going to be anything, it'll be electical/electronic...

Installing some mud flaps the other day, and behind the front driver's side

wheel well liner, is a large electrical connector with about 20 or so wires running in and out of it... . kind of an odd place, I thought...

Coming from a 96, this truck so far has had 0 issues, the 96 had a few probs... leaks, doors hitting the cab, transfer case not shifting correctly, etc.

My biggest complaint would be the paint. Most of the '06's are orange peel.

0 depth. Maybe it absorbs radar or something.
