I bought the Mopar rear fender liners to keep road spray off my fuel fill hoses and off the back sides of my fenders. They came with some plastic fasteners that look like rivets. You pull a stem and they expand... then the stem breaks off. The stem is serrated so it locks in place once set.



Do they make some kind of tool that pulls the stem yet holds the head of the fastener at the same time. I can use pliers to do the job but cannot get them to snug up like I think they should.



Anyone ever use these Mopar fasteners?
 
Matco Tools RG-75K is a kit that includes the tool and lots of plastic rivets. I believe the tool is made by Huck. It has patent number 4520648 stamped on it. Good luck.

The factory plastic rivets all came loose on mine so I replaced them with #10 screws with flat washers and nylon lock nuts, I painted the screws and washers flat black to match the liners.

I know a couple guys at the local Dodge body shop. I'll see if I can borrow the tool. If not... I guess bolts and nuts will do too :). Thanks.
 
If your all on the highway the rivets will hold fine but if your off the pavement much they will work loose. I drive about 5 miles of washboards to get home and one of my rear liners actually fell out in less than 35,000 miles, the rivets on the front liners lasted to about 80,000 but the screws have never come loose.

All my plastic rivets came loose so I installed some window regulator rivets. Those rivets will not come loose, but you need a hydraulic or Big Daddy rivet gun. If you want black headed rivets you can get the rivets that hold the power lock actuator in the door jamb.
