While driving, when I mash the accelerator the truck will not speed up but will hold current rpm and speed. When downshifted the truck responds as it should. Have unplugged EZ box, but the problem still remains. Any advice/opinions appreciated... Thinking maybe TPS??? The problem is sporadic, have tried dielectric grease on EZ connections, but problem still remains. .

When you say downshifted, do you mean manually? Also how are the rest of the shifts are they on time, or does it seem to be shifting early?

I have had this same problem occur in my truck two different times. The situation will fix itself if you stand on the accelerator long enough or you have to downshift to get it to go. It almost feels like the truck is stuck at that rpm. I have watched all my guages and everything looks normal while this is occurring. Is this the early signs of injection pump going bad?

I checked for codes and it gave a 0500, 1693 and another one that I can't remember right now. It hasn't done it the past two days but on the way home from my hunting club it did it three times on the interstate. You can mash the accelerator and nothing happens and then all of a sudden it comes alive like it should. Tonight I down shifted and it didn't fix itself until I held the accelarator for about five seconds on the floor. If anyone can tell me what these codes mean I would appreciate it.

P. S. I just went and checked the codes again and the last code I get is the dreaded 0216, can I assume I need to get the truck to the dealer ASAP before I am stranded.

I am in the exact same boat as you Slightly Modified. Same symptoms, same codes. Will the dealer replace the injection based on this code, or does it have to fail first? I really don't feel like getting stranded anywhere.

Gotta know that third code, but here is the other two.

P0500

No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal

P1693

DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM

Well I dropped the truck off at the dealer today and they called me back and told me that it is giving them an overboost code, injection pump timing failure, and a brake or speed sensor failt. They want to replace the MAP sensor and the brake or speed sensor and I have to foot the bill. They said they think that the faulty map sensor is causing the injection pump code. They said if that does not fix the problem and the pump still shows the timing failure that they will replace it under warranty. So I guess I would rather foot the bill for $200 instead of $1500. I will let you know how everything turns out in a few days when I get the truck back.

Why are you having to foot ANY bill. If they are covering the VP44 then the MAP sensor, which is attached to the engine, and is part of the engine, and as far as I know not excluded on the warranty coverage, should damn well be covered also. Are you even past you 3/36 or whatever DC warranty you have? The speed sensor would be another hazy grey area as to what it is a part of.

I talked to the dealer today and the repairs they did didn't fix the problem, it is still giving the injection pump timing failure code. They are going to replace the injection pump under warranty and I believe they are going to foot the bill for the repairs they made to try and rule out the injection pump. Said they should have it ready for me in two to three days. I will let everyone know how everything turns out. Thanks again for everyones help.

I had these symptoms a few months ago, and it was the VP44.

Dealer replaced it under warranty, no problems. 2001 ETH/DEE with about 55,000 miles at that time.
