Ok this has me stumped..... I did search the archives to no avail, hence this post.

What my '97 4x4 is doing is the idle is excessively high - probably in the 1000-1500 range (tach is quirky, so estimated).

It had a high idle issue before, actually a failure to return to idle, but a new throttle spring fixed that - and I checked and it's on fine.

I grasped the throttle rod and checked it's travel to make sure it had returned to the resting position - it was hard up against it.

Two weeks and a couple thousand highway miles ago, it seemed to do it mainly when cold, then blipping the throttle once warm would bring it back down.

Now, it's high when cold and the same fully warm, no changes - maybe it's an internal problem with the injection pump ?

I'd surely appreciate any suggestions !

Couple a things to add:

10 k miles ago, we added the 3 k Governor Spring Kit to the injection pump. Related, possibly ?

Effects of Low sulphur diesel fuel ?

Thoughts ?

thanks DBazley

check your 3gsk springs again it sounds like a pump issue most likely

Only problem is I didn't put it in - another guy did the work.

Do you think doing so incorrectly could have caused the high idle ?

I do know the cover - inspection cover - I think, that he had to remove to put it in came loose, leaking oil, and he just last week re-sealed it to fix the leak.

Come to think of it, the high idle has been worse since about that time.

I admit total ignorance here - do you or any others who've done the GSK install smell a connection ?

Thanks, KingS !

Ok, so does installing the GSK tend to make the idle higher - requiring a re-adjustment to the idle setting ?

It's never been touched since new --

It wouldn't be a bad idea to ajust the idle it would rule it out.

Auto trans 750 to 800 rpm with trans in drive and airconditioning on.

5 spd (manual) 780 rpm with trans in neutral and air conditioning on.

If adjusting doesn't work I would look at the GSk install.

(At operating tempature. )
