Problem with pod injectors..

Ran out of fuel, procedure needed to restart please

. . Let me start off by saying I am fairly new to the diesel thing, and I am still learning. Anyways, I had a set of pod's put in my early 91 about 2 months ago. Last week I was hauling a motorcycle when I started to hear a ticking-like noise. Turns out the injector on no. 1 was no longer sealing and with every compression stroke there was a pffft noise. So I took my truck back to the guy that installed them and had them removed. He claims that no. 's 1,3, and 6 were all leaking.



I got to thinking that my truck should have 9mm injecotrs, and the pod's should be 7mm, right? This guy is big into 2gen pulling trucks, so he isn't too familiar with the older stuff. All I know is that the sooner I have to stop driving my Ramcharger (360, 4. 10 gears, nuff said) the better. What do you guys think? TIA...
 
I'm going to go easy on you and your choice of mechanics by simply saying that both of you need to perfrom some further research into the first gen territory befor lifting another wrench.



Try a set of 7mm adapters. Shame on the guy who installed these and didn't recognize the fact that they wiggled around inside that big hole.



Find another mechanic.
 
Or better yet, learn to do it yourself. That way, you KNOW who is to blame when stuff goes awry. You still have your stock sticks? Any mechanic with a brain should know that 7mm injectors in a 9mm hole will make for bad results.

I know, I DO need to learn to do it myself. :eek: This experience does nothing but prove that. And once I get my truck out of his place its not going back. I'm ordering the adapters tomorrow.



FWIW, I brought up the subject of the adapters to this guy, but he told me that I didn't need them.
 
Even if the guy is wrenching on the newer trucks, he should be competent enough to know what DP just mentioned above... ... . I would think .

The make him prove it to you one way or the other.

9 mm is . 354 inch

7 mm is . 275 inch

So have him take a 5/16 bolt (common size he should have) and see if the shank will enter the injector hole.

If it does, then you have a 9 mm head and you NEED the adapters.

If not, then you have a 7 mm head (would have to have been replaced) and he's right.

Welp, I called a local injection shop today, and it turns out they had the adapters in stock. $69 worth of copper seems a little steep, but I got them with no waiting for shipping and I need the truck by Sunday. I dropped them off at his place so he can put stuff back together and I should pick my truck up tomorrow. He asked when the last time the valves were done, I said not since I've owned it (approx. 10k miles). He offered to check 'em out for me, I guess maybe he was feeling guilty. Taking into consideration everything that has happened, I declined his offer. At least I made the right call on that one... .
 
If those PODs don't work in that head let me know. I have a head that they will fit in! ;) :-laf
