I remember reading once that an engine had to break in right away and if it wasn't (because of synthetic or improper driving) it was not possible to break it in later. Wish I could remember more...

FYI

Well, ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... for you "cold weather" folks, the Amsoil (AME) 15W-40 has a "pour" point of -47 F.

The (HDD) 5W-30 has -60 F. pour point. These oils should help in very cold climates.

Esso in Canada has a 0w-40 fully syn. Excellent product & flows well at -40. Switched to it on first oil chg. Doesn't burn a drop & I ran it year round in last truck for over 300,000km no problems

was up in gunnison, colorado over the weekend and the temp dropped to -24 one morning the mighty cummins started with no issues. I noticed over the weekend both a powersucks and a durasucks have trouble starting the powersucks never did start with the owner walking away to find a different ride home.

I second what DCaswell says about the 0/40 Esso. We run it in all our iron big and small in the winter months with no prbolems at all.

This is the first winter my ram has seen it and it's a winner from where I stand. The ram used to get 10/40sb rotella, till this year in the winter months. I have been brand loyal to rotella for over 16yrs being mostly because I'm one of three guys that deliverd it to bulkdealers across the prairie provinces in a rig decked out in shell trim. This year enough was enough, the smell has got to me and Esso it is for me fron now on. The 0/40 will smell a little also but not near as bad or as long. We do not belive in anything less than 15/40 in summer and you will never see a 30wt oil in an engine around unless it is a gas job.
