Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Problems!!! Bad head gasket!

my 97 12ver has recently gone down... I cam home from my deployment excited to see the truck again and I drove it for two days... . to come to find out that there was no heat in the cab... . I took the truck to a buddies house and we started looking at it and found out that a Head Bolt Sheared off in the hole... so needless to say I was leaking anitifreeze through this head bolt hole... I went out and got a new head bolt thinking that that was going to fix the problem and it didn't... Now with the bolt in it still has a real good leak in it... nothing goes back into the engine just down the side of the block... I am tearing it apart and going to do some investigating... . I do not want to put a headgasket back on it for the power I am pushing... I would love to do fire rings instead... . if anybody has some information on these and has a place that I can get them that would be great! Thanks for all the help and keep those Hummin Cummins up and Running..... Oh I have 223,000 miles on this truck and no fuel plate... . runs like a Raped Ape... . Let me know!#@$%!

Be sure to have the head milled a few thou to retrue it, 12V heads are ALWAYS slightly warped when removed. I think they took . 005 off mine.

Might do a . 010" thicker head gasket while you're at it.

Well thanks for the info on the head gasket... . I ordered the stock head gasket and the Machine shop has the head now... . won't be driving it for about 2 weeks and is my only transportation to anywhere. I am ordering the head studs from Schied Diesel and I am going to put 12 MM head studs in it. I can't wait to get it back up and running... I also bought a new four flow radiator for it, a new water pump, jumped timing to 15*. Thanks for the help.

Well, since you are going to take the head apart, now would be a good time to freshen up the valves and new seals.

I'll assume you have high quality torque wrench.

also, with studs you can feel safe going to 16 degrees on the timing.

ok thanks do you know or anyone know if the headstuds are 14mm or 12mm... . I know that I measured the Headstuds threads measured 14mm but is that what they are measureing... . I don't know. A little help would be nice thanks.
