Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) problems getting transmission in gear?

I was at the store ealier and when I started the truck and went to put it in reverse it would not go I had just put in a slave cylinder about a month ago. if i go to put it in 1st or 2nd the truck will jump a little. About 6 months ago I put a new valair clutch in. A friend of mine said it good be a broke spring or ear on the pressure plate . Thanks

could it be that the rod going to clutch pedal needs to longer for slightly more travel?
