Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) "370 stumble"

My 01 has recently started giving me problems during left turns when I accelerate heavily from about 1/2 throttle or higher. As I increase the throttle the engine seems to start and stop over and over as if I was turning the ignition on and off. At first I thought it was breaking the tires loose like it sometimes does on rainy days but that is not the case. The heavier the throttle, the worse the bucking. Once I'm through the turn and let off a little, the problem goes away. This only happens on left turns. I cannot make it happen under normal to heavy straight line acceleration or in right turns. I did notice a slight haze of blueish smoke when it happens.

I tow a 6000 lb trailer sometimes and it never happens no matter how much fuel I give it unless I am initiating a left turn.

I have an appointment at the dealer but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or anything similar.

It is a 2001, 2500, automatic, 4X4 with 55K miles. Its just a kid.

Thanks for any ideas or help,

buckbo

autos have dana 70 i would bet you have a smoked posi the spider gears like to eat up the clutch hub that they ride on i fix atleast 4 of those a week with the same kind of complaint thats why it wont do it going straight and for some reason it is more prone on the left side then the right

This may sound little corney but check to se if your left turn signal is burnt out. It may be shorted.

 ... and that has what to do with bucking?...

I was thinking that maybe your 4wd may be partially engaged and the front end is hopping/binding.

With the transmission up to temp, check the fluid and bring it to the upper line.

I bet it is low on fluid.

Houser here again

I said it may sound a little corny. The left turn signal thing. but a guy I know with a Power Choke had the same problem and after months of trouble shooting and multiple shop visits found out he had a shorted left turn signal bulb causing his computer to glitch when he made left turns. He changed the bulb and the problem was solved.

Another odd thing may be the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) that may be cutting out with side load on the differential. Odd but a loose toner ring can produce that condition (At least in a G. M it can I do not know Danas that well)

Or Steering coulomn main ignition harness connector could have an issue.

Problem solved. The dealer changed the fuel pump. (???) The tech said he was surprised it made it from home to his shop. Imagine his surprize when I told him I had just towed a 6000 lb trailer up to Maine and back (from Mass) over the past 5 days.
