heres the deal a little over a month ago i was driving down the road, and out of nowhere the engine noise got really really loud sounded like it was way over reving. Prior to this happening, about once a week, maby 3 times total i would be driving down the road and out of nowhere i would have no response to the gas pedal, i would put it to the floor and my speed would remain constant at about 20-30mph no increase or decrease, then i would let go of the pedal completely and push down again and it would be fine. i thought it could have been the vp44, the truck has been at the shop for a month maby a little longer, they are saying the codes that came up were injection timing, and another that said the ecm was no good. we havent been able to find a remanufactured ECM and a new one is $1300

1998. 5 ram 2500 24valve 200,000 miles on the body 100,000 on the motor.

If they've had your truck for over a month and can't diagnose it, it's time to take it someplace else. They are either unable, uninterested or unwilling to diagnose it. Whatever the case is, it needs to be anyplace else.

sounds to me like it is running out of fuel. when you let up on the pedal it allows the fuel delivery to catch up with the demand and then you can go again. I would vote for bad delivery pump, lines, stopped filter, stopped up heater screen and any of those could end up ruining the injector pump. You need to check your fuel pressure first. get it out of the car shop and take it where they know what they are doing if you can't do it yourself. you should be able to get an ecm from a salvage yard for cheap, but I doubt it will be your fix.

Did you record which codes it had?

This wound helpful to some of the guys around here that might be able to help out.

Truck needs a compression test,leak-down test first. Then go after the injection system. Always eliminate the simple stuff first.

There is a sensor that is bad. One of our trucks is doing the same thing right now. I am going to go out to the shop today, when I get back I will post wich one it is. \

ps I will join in on telling you to definatley take the truck somewhere else. The Place I called told me over the phone what was wrong without looking at the truck.

Sorry, I didn't get there today I'll check tomorrow

If you let them go any further make sure and get in writing if that does not solve the problem they are footing the bill. Sounds to me like some others have been through the symptoms you have and have much cheaper and more plausable solutions. Unfortunatly you may be out the min diagnostic fee for a worthless answer, but will be cheaper in the long run.
