Last night I was driving around town doing 25 and I had just changed from stage 3 to 5 and all of a sudden I had no throttle response. I could mash it to the floor and nothing happened for about 3 secs. then it came back to normal. Check engine light came on right when it happened. Then an hour later I was driving down the highway on stage 3 about 75 and the same thing happened, pressing the throttle did nothing, it went back to normal after about 3 secs. The second time it happened I didnt touch the box.

This morning the check engine light stayed off when I started it.

Is it the box, pump or a sensor going out?

Then today my truck was idling at a friends house for about 5 mins when the idle would pick up about 50-100 rpms then go back to normal then jump back up. I heard it from inside the house.

The box is working fine all on stages and I checked all my connections (map,data and tapped wire) and they are fine.

I havent checked fuel pressure so I cant tell whats going on in that area.

Check, clean and dielectric grease all of the offending connections. If you have a ground wire on your comp, check that to.

CHECK YOUR FUEL PRESSURE!

Reset the APPS or TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) I have forgotten how to do this, hopefully someone will provide that info.

You may want to run by Auto Zone or someone that has an OBDII scanner to see what codes you have, just because the MIL light is out, you may still have codes.

Uninformed guess, your VP44 may be on the way out. :{

My 98. 5 did same thing & after a couple days would just go to idle while driving. Had to kick it out of gear & shut off. Re start & ok for a bit & same thing. Was lift pump & inj. pump

HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THOUGHT I SAW SOMETHING ABOUT ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS??? WRITTEN SOMEWHERE. POSSIBLE CAUSES?? HAD IT CHECKED ONCE COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. CURENTLY BEING CHECKED AGAIN. NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE. NAY THOUGHTS OUT THERE

no pedal

mine doing the same thing-----brought to dealer because i have o216 -teck asked how i new i had those:rolleyes: -i was standing right there when the tech said i was FISHING AROUND in there and thats how i got the codes to SM. tech told me to come back when i got a check engine light -then we would have something

:-{} i was told you needed to get the code three consecutive starts befor you get a mil light--tech was nice enough just not his truck doing it--even wenrt for a 45 min ride with scanner on-nothing of course!!!!!

My truck was suffering from all that same symptoms you guys list here. It threw the P0216 code as well as P1693. The 0216 code is something about timing failure in the injection pump. On the advise of felllow TDR members, I replaced the injection pump and no more problems. Make sure when you do this, you check fuel pressure and replace the Lift pump if needed. Swap of injection pump took about 4 hours and is pretty straight forward. Hope this helps.
