I am having problems with my 06' 2500 ctd 6-speed the truck has a power max cr, with afe proguard 7 and flowpro exhaust. 12,000mi.

Long story short it has been having a hard time cranking, well it finally just quit cranking monday. I had it hauled in (actually stripped the chip off before they picked it up) the dealership checks it out and says its a bad ecm, and wants to know if i had a chip. I said no, so they are doing some more investigating??????

Has anyone else had this problem or am I going to get hung out to dry??

Any advice or help would be greatly aprreciated.

Thanks Mike

Mike,

I'm not a member of the morality squad who is going to lecture you about playing and paying here. I figure it is your truck and your decision to make. But you may want to prepare yourself to pay for the ecm replacement and, from posts I have read here recently, you may also want to consider the possibility that your dealer or the zone rep will void your engine warranty.

A friend of mine who was a Dodge dealership mechanic when I met him and does all of my repairs has told me since the Gen III trucks went into service that dealership techs are trained to recognize and have the ability to detect the evidence when our trucks have been operated outside of the manufacturer's design operating envelope. Aftermarket power upgrade products can cause damage and will probably leave a trail that can be identified when expensive components fail.

I understand the temptation. My 2001 has had a set of Bosch "275 hp" injectors since it was very young.

Bummer...

Thats the main reason that keeps me from adding plug in boxes to my 06. A boost elbow hose clamp on my 03 voided my warranty. Thank God some low-life, scum-sucking idiot stold it two months ago. They did me a huge favor :-laf . I'll gladly wait for all of my warranty to run out before I do any bombing :D .

Bummer man. Hope it's covered. The mechanic might not be able to detect anything. But if he suspects something and has to get a DC Zone rep out there, I think you're screwed. Those Zone Reps have the power to find anything. There's a reason my license plate says PAY2PLY. No lie. Fits me perfect.

I think you'll be ok. Most chips fool the ECM into thinking the engine is operating within parameters. I'm sure there are some small things that will look out of whack but I think they'd have to spend more money to find out than to just replace the ECM. Just my take.

Big or little

TST is just now advertising 200 additional HP and 600ftps of torque for the 2006. I had a TST on my 2004. 5 and loved it but I came to the conclusion that anything over 3/3 or 4/4 was a waste if the rest of your truck is stock. I am planning just a simple 60 horse box for my 2006. Something I can use in towing but can unplug in 10 minutes if I need to go to the dealer.

Call TST and see if they have had any history with this type of problem. Have heard nothing but positive input on their customer service.

just got the truck back, they did not give me any problems about the warranty. So I am happy with the dealership to say the least. When I got it back to my shop I went ahead and put a bullydog tri-power on it to test it and the truck is running great! Thanks for all the advice and help.

Long or Hard Starting problems are a known problem for the '06's. This wasn't an issue with your chip.

The ECM's are easily "friable" with inexperianced techs.

The tech probably fried the ECM then calimed it under warrenty.

I agree, it was not caused by your chip and I find no fault in your morality for keeping Dodge from using your TST as an excuse. I have indeed read here on the TDR of rare instances when purely stock third gens have had computers fail.

I am glad it worked out for you! I am not a morality band beater either. If they would of voided the warranty for only this claim, just the ecm failure IF they could prove the box did it( big if!) I would of gladly paid for another ecm if it were me. But, you could bet your rear that they would of voided the entire truck warranty FOREVER. Now, this is wrong, dishonest whatever you want to call it. Unfortunately there isn't much honesty in this day in age. Heck, I just had my best friend lie to my face today... . I was speechless... ... . people just do whatever will cover their *****$#s regardless of the people they hurt. Okay... . off the soap box... . hope everybody enjoys their weekend!

New EZ

I think I'm going to love this new EZ. I know the motor is setup a little different from my 2004. 5 ... The EZ does not make the CTD real clatterly like my TST did my 2004. 5. The power increase with it on 65HP is great. :D

It took 15 minutes to install and I plan to un-install it when I go in for repairs. :-{}

Stupid ?, what's "EZ"? I just got my truck, and learning things.

I haven't seen anyone list the EZ for an '06. Even Edge Products website lists them for '04. 5 to '05. Is your box the same as those?
