So much for "peaceful" protesters

Ok guys, I am not a newbie to CB's been around them for a long time, but I am fairly new to linears. I have a Galaxy 99 with a Palomar 600 behind it. I have had them matched by a trained person. However when I intalled them I am having a serious problem with the linear. I turned the power down on the Galaxy (they have an adjustable power knob on the front for those of you not familiar with them) then turn on the linear. When I key up I have nothing but serious feedback in the ext. speaker (mounted under glove box. (radio's are mounted under center console)). On top of the feed back my electrical system for the truck (windsheild wipers, and lights) goes haywire while keyed up. Now when I turn the linear off and just use the galaxy alone it seems to work fine.

Now for diagnosis info. I do have a aftermarket stereo with a 350 watt amp pushing 2 10" subs in a reg. cab. (I am smart enough to turn entire stereo off before attempting to key up at all. ) The way I have everything wired is a single 6 guage (with a 100 amp fuse mounted near battery on fender) coming off the battery into the cab where I have it run into an alternate fuse block to run the cb, linear, and amp. then all three are grounded to the same spot.

I am not sure what I have done wrong in the instalation, or if something is wrong with the linear itself. If it is determined that something is wrong with it interally, I need to find a good radio man within a few hours of KC, so let me know if any of someone.

TIA

Russell

feed back thru the external speaker?? Turn DOWN the mic gain. you may even have to move the speaker far away from the radio. if all else fails, try another extension speaker.

On the linear, be sure to use the same or higher gauge wire that it comes with...

Russell have you moved to TN yet? I know you said you were, just not sure if you have yet. We have several CB techs here within short distance of each other. Two in general that are close to me, one specializes in linears & the other in Cobra's with a high knowledge of Galaxy's.

between those two you would definately get your problems solved.

I believe truckstom hit the nail on the head with the location of the exterior speaker and the mic gain. I have a exterior speaker on my Uniden Grant XL and I can't have my mic gain wide open either. :{ Which is sad cause its a bad little radio. I have a Galaxy 225 linear that I run, and before turning it on I have to turn my stereo off. With just the radio its ok.

Also if your running a Palomar 600 I wouldn't go with anything less than 4 guage. I'm about to upgrade and I will be running either 2 guage or 4 guage in my cab to the box, and probably 10 or 8 to the CB itself!:D Oo.

On my Galaxy 99 I cant run the mic gain past the 12 o'clock position without feedback. Still is plenty loud.

First I want to thank all that repied. I will try the changing to seperate grounds. As far as moving the ext. speaker I cant get it any farther apart. I literally have the ext. speaker under the glove box on the passenger side, ( have a console out of '92 in the middle) the cb is mounted in front of the cup holders and the linear mounted UNDER the console itself. On the turning the mic gain down that doesnt work either I have turned it ALL the way down and it still squeals like a banchie.

Mark unfortunately I wont be moving to Tenn. The wife didnt get the job she wanted which was the single reason we wanted to move there so I pulled my application to NADC. But I do have family down there so I will be in and out of the area 2 or 3 times a year.

Thanks All

Russell

Geez, the Galaxy 99 by itself is hellacious!

I'm running a Cobra 29LTD with a Palomar 400a linear. I ended up having to put the linear behind the back seat to keep from screwing with the electrical system. First time I put it in, I had a bad ground and every time I keyed up the truck would die... wierd . Good luck to ya! Just my 1/2 cent
