Not sure if anyone on here might have some experience with one but I'll ask. I recently put a clutch in a JX55 Case for someone. It is a dry clutch that actually comes as an assembly, ready to bolt to the flywheel, it is kind of a dual purpose as the PTO clutch is part of the assembly and the disc for the PTO actually mates up to the flywheel. It has 2 sets of push type release fingers, 1 for the transmission clutch and 1 set for the PTO clutch. The main clutch assembly comes preadjusted and ready to bolt up.

Anyhow I replaced the clutch, bearings and PTO disc, I thought it seemed week and after a few days the customer called to say it would slip in road gear. I did verify free travel at the throwout bearing so no pressure against the clutch. He called yesterday and said now he can't get the clutch to release to get into gear, which was the original problem with the old clutch. It is a 2006 tractor with only 800 hours on it. The clutch I pulled out was dated in late 2010 and the pressure plate was blue it had been so hot and the tractor was also split in Nov 2012 for a transmission shifting hard problem and they replaced some pins or shift linkage in the transmission but not the clutch. Customer bought the tractor on an auction in December. Dealer is supposed to warranty the clutch but I want to make sure I am not missing something else. The clutch has an organic facing and I think the larger tractors(JX75, JX85, and JX95) use a ceramic disc although not sure if the rest of the clutch is the same dimensions. I put a clutch that was similiar if the not the same part number in a New Holland 60 hp tractor a few years ago and it has been fine so far. Maybe the new assembly was not put together properly, it uses a bellevile washer for a spring so maybe it was reused? It was a reman unit. Just looking for any ideas if I am missing something.

Thanks,

Matt

Are you sure you have free play at the throwout bearing and not just free play in the linkage or fork assembly. Is it possible the throwout bearing housing/retainer is in full release position, as in up against the transmission and still holding the clutch partially released? With an internal adjusting clutch the angle of the pressure plate fingers are changed for more or less bearing clearance to match the PTO fingers/bearing clearance... I think... it's hard to get a visual, not ever having done one of this type. If it was slipping and now will not release, I would guess the disc lining has come apart and piled up.

Sounds like a complicated clutch:eek:

either the new one was not set up correctly or there was free play in the wrong place as stated above. i've done a few dual stage clutches and always had my local clutch rebuilder go through them. so far, i have'nt had the problem you described. it sure sounds like it was set up wrong initially.

I am hoping it was just set up wrong, I pulled it in tonight so it should be apart tommorrow and I will know more. I unhooked the linkage and it almost feels like the clutch fork came off the throwout bearing somehow, although I can't picture how the fork was set up to know if that is even possible.
