I'm new to the site so I'm sorry if this has been brought up before. But, I just found out from the dealer that my 1998 128K mile cummins has a broken head bolt and has no compression in one cylinder. That's why it wont idle well and is low on power. That's one thing, But, under normal driving, while idling or just when I let off the gas, the oil pressure gauge will drop to zero pressure for 4 to 8 seconds before it regains pressure. It doesn't do it all the time, but does seem to happen more when it's hot outside.
Does this have anything to do with the head bolt? Or could it be the oil pump? I couldn't get the dealer to even look at the oil pump. He just told me to get a remanufactured motor. It only has 128K miles on it does that sound right?
Also does anyone know a good mechanic in the So Cal area?
Thanks for any help you can give.
