problems with power steering/problem fixed..thanks Bob

The power steering does not work very well at idle. I was reading up on some other post and took the pressure line and valve out of the pump. The screen did not look that bad, but I took the valve apart and cleaned it. After reinstalling and adding fluid, steering is worse. I drove the truck in circles with steering wheel cranked one way, then the other. It still is not right. After looking at a picture on another post, I noticed there should be a small ball in the valve. I was careful to take mine apart and did it over a drawer so I would not lose anything. I guess I am going to have to find a small ball and stick on in there. Anything else I should be trying? Thanks.

why not get a rebilt pump and stretch the spring a bit that will give it more boost

then take the old pump and have it rebilt and keep for a back up pump

flush the pwr string pump, clean the screen and stretch the spring out- worked like a charm 20k miles ago for me. put a synthetic pwr steering fluid in after flushing out old fluid

Thanks, Bob!!! I did a search before I posted this problem and could not find the link that you gave me. I knew I came across that link. I could not believe how my steering works, now. That is a lot better than spending $70 for a rebuilt pump. I don't think a rebuilt pump would work this well. I think my problem was the BB was lost or missing.
