I was driving to work this morning when out of the blue my check engine light came on and the engine started misfiring bad. . sounded like I had dropped a cylinder and the truck had next to no power... My first thought was that I had a dead injector or blown a hole in a piston... I managed to coax her into a gas station and and shut her down... I checked all of the connections for the TST under the hood and they were all fully seated and tight... I started the engine and it was still misfiring... As I was already late for work I started pulling out the TST (those crank and camshaft posisition sensors suck to work with on a hot engine)... When I finally got it all unhooked I started her up again and she ran smooth as glass... Before I contact TST about this. . is there n e thing I should check out or test?. . What could possibly cause a sudden dead cylinder when the truck was running fine a few minutes before?. . I bought the box used from a friend a few months ago and for the most part it was great. . I had an occasional back fire and sometimes it would idle rough or sound like it had a random misfire under load... I figured it was just a bad injector but now I am not so sure... Any help would be greatly appreciated. .

A COMPLETELY dead cylinder would most likely be a bad connection at one of the injector plugs. I would have just re-seated the three injector connectors, and tried re-firing. Retrieving the codes might have pointed to the problem, as well.

Also, pull the cover off the top of the TST box (four Phillips screws), and check the fuses in there. Make sure they're 5A fuses (very early boxes had 3A fuses, which weren't enough), and that they're all good.

Beyond that, I'd re-install the harness and try it again. If it's still running poorly, then send it in to TST and have them check it out. Otherwise, I'd assume it was a bad connection somewhere.

I tried unpluging all the injector connectors and it was still misfiring... I just checked the fuses and that r all 5A. . all still intact... I will prolly try hooking it up again sometime later this week. . Right now I just dun have the time... The truck is running beautifully right now... Way better then the last time it was stock... ~shrugs~... Ill get it sorted out and let u know what I find out... Thx for ur help

I checked the codes. . P0602 and P0205 popped up... Kinda worried about the 602 code

Depending upon when this TST was made, there have been a few updates on the wiring harness due to some diodes breaking, causing some problems, etc

I would just send it back and they will certainly take care of it

Tommyguns right there are some diodes in the wiring harness which TST was having problems with. It took 3 wiring harnesses to get my very early issue box working right.

0205, Injector circuit open #5 cylinder, I had the same problem only #3, it was the injector harness, mine was over a year old so they charged me, I think bout $80 for the new harness. The early ones had diodes in them but are not needed now since they have changed some of the programming. I'll bet it is a bad diode. Give em a call and have them send you a new harness or if you want to fool with it you can take the harness apart and cut the diodes out and resolder.

I just fired off an e-mail to TST a lil while ago explaining everything that happend... Ill wait and see what they have to say before I do n e thing that might end up costing me more $$ in the long run...

Well... I heard back from Mark at TST. . He suggested taking a look at the diodes and such to check for n e broken wires... as soon as I grabbed ahold of the connector to start pulling the electrical tape off the split loom. . one of the wires pulled clean out of the deutsch connector... Glad the problem was that easy to find but kinda PO'd cause now I know its gonna be a while before I have the power back :( ... ~shrugs~... such is the way...
