I bought my '97 truck with 56,000 miles and since it is a 5 speed, I figured it had the 215 HP pump on it. It turns out I have the 180 HP pump( friggin Kailifornia). Well I have added 370 Diamond B injectors, 265/680 fuel plate, Psychotty Air and AFC spring kit and my truck runs like sh*t!!! It shakes very badly at idle and just plain runs llike sh*t everywhere else. Do I have to install the high flow delivery valves? Do I need to have my timing bumped up, and if so how far? I will be checking fuel pressure this weekend to see if I have overflow or lift pump problems. HELP!!!

Im no expert, but I do know you need to lose the EGR stuff..... change your exhaust manifold! Let the engine breath, baby... . you are adding all sorts of fuel with a plate and injectors, but without air in-air out, you are drowning it... it will run like crap. Spend the $40 or so on the Moparguy air filter, take a sawzall to the exhaust and change out your manifold first... . the pump stuff is still rocket science to me.

Chillydog, you don't need to buy a new exhaust manifold but you definitely will want a new intake manifold. The cheesy EGR intake manifold, if you look inside it, is about the size of a quarter, unbelievable. There are some wiring/sensor issues but they aren't a big deal, do a search on this site. The exhaust manifold can be closed up with a homemade steel plate and the stock bolts. Once you've taken all that stuff off throw it as far away as possible, preferably all the way back to California, recycling, you know. Your truck will immediately run like it should.

ChillyDog,

You might consider installing new high performance delivery valves. This probably would help clean up your idle. You should pick up about 40 HP too. They are easy to install.

I romoved all of the EGR crap as soon as I figured out what it was. The truck ran no different after removing the EGR. I checked the overflow valve and stretched the spring a little but it made no difference.
