Procedure for Safely Welding on Vehicle

Hello All;

I'm about to start on a custom swing away spare tire carrier so I can carry a full size spare on my RAM. Am I truly safe welding on the vehicle with just disconnecting the negative leads to the batteries? Last thing I want to do is fry a computer module.

I have welded on these trucks and frames many times with no issues, I put the ground as close to the welding as possible.

Thanks for the response. I assume you also remove the negative battery leads?

Honestly no, as I am not welding anywhere near the ecm but no downside to doing so.

I have done exstensive welding on trucks of many different applications, from repairs to complete body fabrication, never removed any battery cables, never had any issues. Just clamp the ground as close to the work as reasonable and you will be fine.
